Shed a tear or two tonight
well, I watched the 'show'. Can I put a few of my thoughts?? I got choked up on quite a few occasions - with some of the backdrop stuff of his work and with the choir. I was very pleasantly pleased with his children. Seeing as how they have been shielded so much from the world - they were fabulous and obviously very VERY proud of him.
I dont think I would have been moved to tears so much if his coffin hadnt actually been there. That really got to me at some stages - when HIS songs were being sung and he was lying there - RIGHT there in his coffin.
Sorry to be all maudlin - I loved the last bit when the stage got a crowded and they sang his song in front of him
and then when his brothers took him away while 'Man in the Mirror' backdrop was going on - well - that just did it for me

dunno Hun - but SkyNews were showing it, it was also on SkyArts AND I believe the beeb(2) covered it. Sky will no doubt be replaying it all week, and you might get it on catch-up TV on the beeb this week too.

Doesn't Coffin sound horrible, I think the word Casket sounds much better...somehow Coffin sounds much more final!
I agree with you, I was choked up from the start watching the Courtage arrive at the Staple Centre.......
what a lovely dignified memorial which he truly deserved, he was a genius of our time but his legacy and he himself will live on in his music.
RIP MJ

The memorial service was a very fitting and touching send off for such an amazing star, entertainer and human being.
He will be sorely missed, Brook Sheilds talk and Usher's rendition of 'gone too soon' were the highlights for me. You could feel their emotion and sadness. Then poor Paris breaking down at the end was heart wrenching. It looks like MJ's brothers and sisters will take good care of the children though, they all seemed very close knit.
Very sad

Bumping for memorial discussions.
Yes it was beautiful and fitting Every thing flowed and I loved all the speeches and songs(I give Mariah a pass on this one )...quote:Originally posted by sheryl18:

Very sad
Paris crying broke my heart but I think she has heard all the nasty things said by the media and hateful people so she decided to tell the world what a wonderful man he is....
It was very moving. I just wanted to hug those poor babies all the way through. So brave, so beautiful.
Me too....It was a fitting tribute...quote:Originally posted by Lindsxdx:

Well done and thanks to all of you here for the links and commentaries.
'Gone Too Soon' was very poignant and brought back some personal memories, and a reminder of what his Mother especially, must be going through. His little girl was obviously being asked if she wanted to speak, and if you can lipread, you will see her clearly saying " I have to".

Easier said then done, but you're right of course. and yes, it is nice that younger ppl will enjoy MJ's music too; We have quite a few of his cds, dvds etc in our home (I still have my "Making of Thriller" video too! ) and my son had a couple of his cds already (number ones etc) but he's bought 5 more of his albums over the internet, after hearing some of his old stuff that he'd not heard before, like "Off the wall" He's 18. He was working last night so didnt see the memorial, but we taped it and he watched it today. He wasnt too bad til it got to Paris at the end and even he was filling up! MJ will never be forgotten. Thats for sure!quote:Originally posted by pretty~cocoa~eyes:Awwwh thats so nice ... Sometimes I feel like his family defending him like this ... It just pains me that people continue to make rude jokes and call him names after watching what he really was like in his home videos and interviews... No one but the press and people who treat the media as gospel has any bad word to say about him....
Like they say "There's nowt as queer as folk"quote:Originally posted by pretty~cocoa~eyes:Awwwwh thats lovely ... your not wrong there..there is nowt as queer as forum folk, myself included!
Don't forget your Private Eye memorial issue. I bought mine today.
OOh my mate bought the Diana one and it was pulled from the shelves on the same day deemed too sensitive though all the content of it is common now. Funny what a bit of time and perspective can do.
hi PCE. I hope you are feeling better today as I know you were very moved watching the Service yesterday. All the hoo ha is over now and perhaps the media will allow poor Michael to now rest in peace. They can at least grant him the solitude in death that they failed to grant him in life.
Still listening to my compilation PCE. And still rather sad that this darling man is no longer with us.
I went into Asda today and they have got most of his CDs on sale, plus a DVD which I wasn't aware of. I wasn't sure if it was a cashing-in exercise so I didn't buy it. Jumping on the bandwagon comes to mind. I refuse to buy anything that is not official.

Feels like the end of an era.
R.I.P. Michael.
R.I.P. Michael.
Its the day after the memorial and i just still feel so sad and upset . I cant believe Michael Jackson the king of pop has gone . It feels so wrong he went to soon. It will take ages for me to get over this. The memorial just keeps going round in my head when i watched it. The world has lost something so special and great. Anyone else feel the way i do???
My Mama was watching it last night when I got there and I had to turn away to do something else, because it brought all the memories back of his very early songs I remembered and that is how I have chosen to remember Michael Jackson..the young boy singer who I loved..

It does Mister tea. I don't know anyone else who can come anywhere near him with regard to talent. He cannot be replaced.

it is the song which proves he had the sweetest voice in the world. The only other person who has the same range is Robbie Williams, imo.
Did Dave miss this one?

You know what PCE. You've got what you wanted yet again. A thread that wasn't bowing down at MJs feet has gone and this one that is remains. And why is that? Because the MJ fans couldn't resist coming into the other one to start a row about him while we had the dignity to leave this one in peace.
Fine! I can't be bothered to argue about him any more, you have your opinion and I have mine.
But do not dare to allege that my opinion of him is because I treat the media as gospel.
If you knew anything about me at all then you would know that I get most of my news from alternative sources and am heavily critical of the mass media around the world and their role in the control and manipulation of the masses.
I've mentioned it enough both on C4 and here.
Stop insulting people because they don't have your view of MJ
And I have nothing more to say to you on this subject

Roxi, here's the way i look at it, I hope this makes you feel a little better....
....he has been my favourite artist since I can remember, and I am almost 36....I am deeply saddened and I confess to bawling my eyes out over his passing away, and watching the service last night....I simply adored him...
....in a strange kind of way, I am glad he went KNOWING that millions of people here in the UK (and indeed the World) wanted to see him perform....he had created a media explosion, the kind only Michael Jackson can do...from all accounts he was looking forward to doing the Concerts, imagine that for him after all the shit over the last few years, MILLIONS wanting HIM!!!!!
I am sorry his Children have lost their Father and his siblings their Brother. I am also sorry that future generations will never actually truly understand the impact he had on Music, Dance & what a wonderful Humanitarian he was.....but I am not sorry to tell people how special he was to me, and I'm very, very lucky to have had him and his Music throughout my life....
As someone said in an earlier post, there will NEVER be , a GLOBAL SUPERSTAR as big as him ever again, most kids now will never know what it is to grow up with an Icon like him....we are lucky in that respect!
He went in a Blaze Of Glory and had the World at his feet....I'd bet my last Buck that he was overwhelmed at the support he had!!!
I have to look at it in a positive way, he has gone, but his Music & Legacy will never go! He IS and always will be the King of Pop, and I thank him!

I was thinking of you and other genuine fans here during the Memorial I think it will still take time to adjust to because his death was so sudden. When my Dad died so suddenly I was in a shocked daze for quite some time as I had no sense of prepartion for his loss. With my Mother it was different, she'd been ill for a long time and I knew she would be passing.
Take the time needed, play his music if it makes you feel happier, if they bring tears let them flow. I too am still trying to digest it all and I don't think you and I will be the only ones around the world to feel this. My thoughts are also with his family and children bless them.
