I'm watching BBC News and the death of MJ is all over it, but absolutely no mentions of Farrah Fawcett. I find this very sad, her death is just as sad as Michael Jackson.

Her death has been completely overshadowed. But she was the most famous pin-up when she was in Charlies Angels. Every girl in my school wanted her hair and teeth.quote:Originally posted by Mentalist:

I was just thinking that.
I think everybody had this poster girls and boys.
I loved her n so wanted to look like her,RIP
This is truly global news. I was too young to remember Farah Fawcett but I doubt she was as popular in say Africa, Jacko was absoutely world wide.
I completly agree Farah Fawcetts death is very sad but Jacko is getting the coverage he deserves.

When i was small my sister and i used to pretend we were Charlies Angels.
I was always Farrah, my sister was Kelly.
And she was married to The Million Dollar Man. What a girl!
RIP Farrah

And all her own hair (I believe) no tacky extensions in those days. She was an icon.

Over 12 million copies of that poster were sold not to mention how many times its been downloaded and she was never paid a penny for it.quote:Originally posted by sciencewasrobbed:quote:Originally posted by squiggle:quote:Originally posted by longcat:

Yes, I guess that one death is deemed more important and newsworthy than the other
MJ is an international superstar and his death has come as a great shock he spans the generations. FF was famous in the 70's and unless your mam is a fan (like mine) a lot of us won't even know who she is.
I think people are shocked because it was so sudden, he was supposed to be touring in a months time... Farrah on the other hand was quite ill and people knew of her struggle...
I know every death should be treated as such but people know the fascination the media has with MJ...

I guess so. Still both of them very sad.
I was over on DS this morning and they have a Michael Jackson Joke Thread going

Karma will be hitting these people soon... I still see some very recent negative comments on youtube
Nobody is suggesting she should generate the same press as Michael Jackson but a mention would have been nice. She was a 70s icon.
I think the Michael Jackson stories will get a lot worse. All sorts are going to come out of the woodwork.quote:Originally posted by pretty~cocoa~eyes:Still very sad all the greats are leaving us ...quote:Originally posted by Liverpoollass:

If people can try and leave all the other stuff behind (difficult I know especially if true), and just respect and accept that the world has lost an musical genius.
Ive had 6 joke texts already by 8am - there are some very sad people out there who think up these jokes.quote:Originally posted by Liverpoollass:

Sadly I was expecting them

It was the same when Princess Di died, it took minutes before I received a joke text. Happens every time and indeed there are some seriously disturbed people out there with no decency or sensitivity.
I pray not but I fear so some people are going to try to sell their books ... God help his family most especially his young kids....quote:Originally posted by longcat:I think the Michael Jackson stories will get a lot worse. He should have been respected while he was alive, it shouldnt take his death to respect him as a musician and entertainer especially since he has the most impressive back-catalogue in music history....quote:Originally posted by Liverpoollass:quote:Originally posted by pretty~cocoa~eyes:

I find that sort of thing quite sickening actually - to make jokes about someone's untimely death!
He has stole her thunder a little hasn't he? Two very sad losses.quote:Originally posted by Mentalist:

He was respected for his music though, hence the millions of fans round the world.

Buy a copy of The Grauniad there is loads about Farrah in there.
However it's like Aldous Huxley again, one more time.

But what about James (the band)!!1!1! They have 16 albums, all awesome and none of it pop tat.
Other than technically, music is subjective. I'm not sure Michael Jackson broke many boundaries technically. It's pop and hardly the stuff of genius.
That's not to say it isn't good if you like pop, of course. Obviously, his music tapped a huge market at his peak.
MJ was a genius... You might not have liked him but he had millions of fans... Most of the modern day acts are inspired by him matterfact there has not been any musical growth in modern day pop music since Michael...quote:Originally posted by Daniel J*:quote:Originally posted by pretty~cocoa~eyes:

His back catalogue is impressive and I think he had one of the most beautiful underrated voices in the industry... He was also a great song writer....

Yes you're right Lass, that is who I am remembering this morning that sweet faced boy with the voice of an angel who was sucked into the giant mincing machine called fame.

But having millions of fans doesn't make him a musical genius. I mean, the Spice Girls had millions of fans in their day, I expect. Undoubtedly he was an accomplished entertainer but then so's Robbie Williams. I just don't get the genius bit, specifically as far as his music is concerned, that's all. He was unique as a complete package, especially at the time of Thriller, but that's not the same as genius.

I agree that he had millions of fans and was one of the best dancers of all time.
The rest is hyperbole.

70m album sales on one album and an impressive back catalogue of fantastic music is not hyperbole. Girls aloud is hyperbole.
Thank you... Please dont even put Girls aloud in the same sentence as MJ ... Music today is redundant....quote:Originally posted by ~Orchid~:quote:Originally posted by Garage Joe:quote:Originally posted by pretty~cocoa~eyes:

I'm afraid that the above comments I refered to are hyperbole. I know how it is when your musical hero dies. Mine did in 1993. I know what it means. Fraternal and to MJ fans but let's not get carried away.

But, but, Radiohead!

Carried away? He was a musical genius, even if you're not a MJ fan his contribution cannot be denied. Genius, legend and all the acolaides attributed to him and his music is deserved. Hyperbole, not.

As it happens I have the entire catalogue purchased for my son who was obsessed and even entered dancing competitions. I don't dislike his stuff at all.
