Yes, makes you wonder how they ever got planning permission in the first place !!

True.  That's the madness of the 60's for you; anything 'old' was fair game for getting binned.

Yes .

Derelict 'War sites' were around and money was spent on educating 'architects' they had a field day in housing the 'many' in small areas cheaply with a feeling of 'The New'....

My aunt cried the day they moved her out of her prefab....she had to move into a tower block just off of the Old Kent Road.  She was never happy after that.

I'm desperately trying to work in the fact you lived in a prefab and we have a forum member called Sprout.

I know, they might have had their heads in the clouds, but the residents soon realised terra firma was what they were used to and made them feel 'At Home'

They were still inhabited around the back of Brockley well into the 70's Baz.  Loads of residents refused to be moved out  and fought tooth and nail with the council.

We move out just after my sister was born in the mid 50s , but I think they weren't pulled down for a decade or so ...

I think the late 50's was when the majority left, Baz...and that's when all the blocks of flats started to appear.  Although they weren't all skyscrapers to begin with.

PMSL!!   I used to go to a prefab school too

We even had to go on a school trip at one point to the swimming baths at another school cos ours was out of action. (I nearly drowned too)   I couldn't swim at the time and lost my footing in the pool and no one came to my aid
