Hmmm, I have vista and have come across no updates.

Yep I had a dozen too MMD
I got eighteen
They're a bit annoying however, can be forgiven as it's an operating system. I can't quite understand why Adobe Reader and iTunes need updates on a seemingly weekly basis when 90% of updates seem to leave the software looking and functioning the same.

The problem i have with them is that instead of deleting the one es prior to the new ones they keep adding them to the list. Surely they could do this and help my system speed up a bit. There are reams of updates in my folder.
I'm still using XP, but get a similar number of updates.
The majority of these updates are to deal with security issues which have come to Microsoft's notice, and the updates cover each MS product you have, so if you have Excel as well, you get those updates.
I know that a few weeks ago it was reported that there was a serious matter found where hackers could potentially get access to power stations pcs, and one of these updates was to deal with that.
If you are not getting MS updates automatically, then check the settings. For XP - Control Panel - Security Centre. - Manage Security options. If you do not have a legit copy of Windows, then you may not be able to get updates unless you pay for a legit copy.

I know, Adobe is proper weird... a new update every 5 mins Vista, however, sucks and needs all the help in update form it can get

Saz, I've seen and read some not very complimentary stuff on Vista, and I know you're quite clued up ( by other posts I've seen of yours) about computers, but honestly, I really haven't had any probs with it

It sometimes makes me wonder what peeps have on their comps to make systems run the way they say it does for them
to be fair, I have had limited dealings with it and avoided it like the plague I do like Windows 7 though, its vair good

Yeah, apparently 7 is sposed to be better than Vista. Untill I'm forced to, I will not be upgrading

Yeah. There is an option somewhere where you can turn off automatic installing of updates, but I keep them on because I want to be 'updated', but sometimes I think it's taking the piss out of me.
