twas funny watching him trying to work out what I was spelling out!

When I worked in an office and had to do all that on the phone to people I just made my own up!   Sometimes with disasterous consequences!

Gawd... I know the Nato phonetic alphabet and the one the Americans sometimes use.. slight variations... 'SO' in Nato is Sierra Oscar but the Americans use Sugar Ocean .. which sounds a tad tropical idyll

apparently they spell Alpha as alfa!   & juliet as juliett

all that & they still can't say herb right!

There is an old wartime jokey type phonetic alphabet..

A for 'orses
B for Mutton
C forth highlanders...

I think the point of a phonetic alphabet is, largely, not how it is spelt but how it sounds.. which considering their blatant disregard for the letter U is probably wise

LOL. I was once asked for the number plate of a car in the regulation whatsitsname Romeo Tango alphabet but I'd forgotten what an F was   so I said FANTAIL PIGEON. It worked.
