Do you have twin boys Menty?
noooo..... now its been mentioned she did say they would come whilst she was away.
as she is away with another sixth former they may well use the sat phone from the boat to get the results... if not I suppose we will just wait til she returns.
I kinda hope she waits really.... in case its not good.
there is not the optimism this year about results that there was last year

No!! I'm not that mad. Just believe me when I tell you the pill doesn't work just after you've had a baby!!!Tell me about the Further Maths Ditty. They want my youngest to do 'A' level next year and Further Maths the year after but I've never heard of it?

Are you talking about AS/A level? If so yes. There are lots of different types of maths you can study at A level. Further maths covers modules that aren't included in the "normal" maths A level.
It could be a mixture of any of the pure, mechanics, Statistics or discrete maths modules. And each school usually covers different modules to make up the "further maths" A level, depending on the student or teacher preferences.
I should add for clarity that Further Maths is an A level all of it's own (but one you can't do without doing normal maths alongside, or before it).
I did Maths and Further Maths for A level. It's great as long as you REALLY love maths...cos it's a hard slog if it's just your "extra" subject to fill the gap.
If you're intending to do Maths at Degree level it has it's pros and cons....... I found the first year at uni was mostly just repeating the Further Maths stuff so that those that didn't do it caught up. SO it either makes for a very boring first year, or a very easy one, depending on your point of view

you are uber fertile after you have had a baby Menty... its all been cleaned out & is ready to go!
Re: Further Maths... from a parental point of view... unless you are really really dedicated, you tend to lose track of what the buggery it all means. I tend to ask Ducky.... as in "was that the hard paper she says she struggled with" etc.
Ickle decided to do it cos she had already done GCSE Statistics as well as GCSE Maths... so her school said she may as well do Further Maths as well cos she had already covered a lot of the content (of either the Further Maths or the Maths... I can't remember which) in the Stats GCSE.
This brought her total to a stooopid 5 A Levels!!!! However, she doesn't struggle with the maths too much... there are dodgy papers.... and one particular module she hated (coincidentally it was the module Ducky doesn't teach)... but if your boys have the Maths knack... then yeah... they should go for it... they may well enjoy it.

He loves maths, and I really mean loves it,! He's already working his way through the A level book on his own at the moment just for fun (who does maths for fun!!). I'm just a bit concerned that he will have done this and his three science A' levels by the time he leaves school and then what do I do with him?
Where were you 14 years ago with that bit of advice Ditty??????
He's already done the Statistic GCSE, he did that last year. It's so complicated now I can't keep up with they way they do things now, I think I'm getting old

*cough* That aside....... it sounds like it's definitely for him!
There are many many maths modules Menty (that's a lot of M's )...more than you need to make up the two A levels, so he could always do the lot if he gets through them quickly

my daughter! let him go for it Menty... the more he banks now the better...
the thing that happened with Ickle... that was unexpected.... was she went and discovered the joys of socialising at sixth form... this meant that suddenly she found herself under pressure.
She still refuses to drop DT... which I get... its her fun subject... but I have a feeling she is gonna have to hit the books hard this year... her end of term 2 results were below what was expected of her... that came as one hell of a shock to her!
stop trying to understand the details of it Menty...
honest... I lost track of it all this year... especially with the maths stuff...
I just ask Ducky!

It's a bit crazy I agree It seems to be the way to push them as quickly as poss these days. Not always a bad thing....for some of them, but it seems to be getting to the point of making whole year groups sit exams early, with no regard to the individual. I don't like it.
It sounds like it's the right thing for your son though, if he's already willingly working independently at his age, he's gonna go far.

PMSLI hope so Ducky at this rate he's going to have so many bloody 'A' levels that he should be able to go anywhere!! Problem is there is no way I can send him to university at 16. Academically he will be ready but because of his Aspergers socially he won't.
Do you know what the Oxbridge Exams are? Unfortunately the teachers assume I am as bright as he is so they throw all this information at me in me 10 minute meetings with me and I wander away feeling a touch confused.
