Google them and make an informed decision Sandra. Are they available without a presciption....if so, read up on them first before deciding......if not, yep, definitely chuck 'em!

They're an anti-allergy drug, so they will make you sleepy, most over the counter sleep aids have anti-histamines in them.  

If you are having trouble sleeping, try Nytol, get the 2 a night ones and only use a half of one tablet.  I really am a crap sleeper, but half helps me drift off without me feeling groggy in the morning.

Alimemazine 10mg tablets are a new product from Winthrop. Alimemazine has a central sedative effect comparable to that of chlorpromazine but largely devoid of the latter's anti adrenaline action. It has powerful antihistamine and anti-emetic actions. This product is indicated in the management of urticaria and pruritus and in pre-medication as a sedative before anaesthesia in children aged between 2 to 7 years. 

Alimemazine tartrate is not suitable for everyone and some people should never use it. Other people should only use it with special care. It is important that the person prescribing this medicine knows your full medical history.

Your prescriber may only prescribe this medicine with special care or may not prescribe it at all if you:

• are allergic or sensitive to or have had a reaction to any of the ingredients in the medicine
• are elderly with lowered blood pressure, severe constipation, prostate problems, have high risk of paralytic ileus.
• have certain heart or circulation problems
• have epilepsy
• have had narrow angle glaucoma
• have hypothyroidism
• have kidney problems
• have liver problems
• have myasthenia gravis
• have Parkinson's disease
• have phaeochromocytoma
• have prostate problems

Furthermore the prescriber may only prescribe this medicine with special care or may not prescribe it at all for a child under two years of age

Alimemazine

limemazine (INN), also known as trimeprazine (former BAN and USAN; trade names Nedeltran, Panectyl, Repeltin, Therafene, Theraligene, Theralen, Theralene, Vallergan, Vanectyl, or Temaril), commonly provided as a tartrate salt, is a phenothiazine derivative that is used as an antipruritic (it prevents itching from causes such as eczema or poison ivy, by acting as an antihistamine).^[1] It also acts as a sedative, hypnotic and anti-emetic for prevention of motion sickness. Although it is structurally related to drugs such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), it is not used as an anti-psychotic treatment.^[2] It is no longer available in the United States.^[3] The elimination half-life is approximately 5 hours.^[4]

In veterinary use, the combination of trimeprazine and prednisolone is licensed as an anti-pruritic and anti-tussive in dogs.

Hi Sandra. a few pointers i got from my GP.

No caffeine after 2pm.

A hot milky drink before bed, but an hour or so before you actually retire.

Vitamin B can help you relax and calm down.

Nytol might help

Valerian tablets about half an hour before going to bed, but make sure you don't get the 'non drowsy' variety.
