So would you like the same thing to happen if it was the other way round and a man was falsly (sp) accusing?

have you any idea the trauma rape victims and abused have to go through and how many rapists and abusers have been found not guilty and gone on to commit more crimes, even murder. Do you think people are going to come forward for fear of the abuser/rapist getting off and then they having to go to jail because of that

An allegation not being proven is different from one being proven as a lie

Those who have been genuinely abused or raped should always come forward, im talking about those false claims, im talking about protecting the innocent.

so all those that had made accusations over the years Jimmy Savile would have been jailed for wasting police time...that's an horrendous thought.

and you are missing my point, you said jailed for wasting police time. If that were the case there would be thousands of innocent abused people sitting in prison.

Well, I dont believe that we should throw the baby out with the bathwater, lets not see innocent people's lives ruined too.

Yes, if it can be proved as wasting police time or whatever. I still think jail is harsh though

Jail time might put future false accusers off from pulling the same stunt,  they can't just be allowed to walk out of court after putting some guy through hell (ruining his life, mud sticks) and to get back on with their lives as if they did nothing wrong...that just doesn't sound right.

I've always agreed with that idea, that makes the most sense.

I think the key word is *false*... and much as I am all for abusers being jailed and the key thrown away,  I'm afraid I agree that if people are proven to have made  false/malicious allegations against someone then I think they should be severely censured.

Another household TV name is being investigated over sex abuse allegations by Jimmy Savile  police.

A case file has been opened on a much-loved comedian.

Sources say police are in the process of preparing to interview him under  caution.

Allegations of historic sexual abuse have been made against the TV favourite,  who denies the claims.

Police yesterday refused to confirm who the much-loved comedian was.

The Sunday Mirror knows the identity of the man, now in his 70s, but we have decided not to name him.

I agree, Baz. I recollect a case in recent times where a young woman made false allegations of rape. I'm pretty sure she was jailed after making her second false allegation, but unfortunately that was no consolation to the first man she falsely accused, as he had committed suicide by then.
