27?
are you sure it's two 3's and not a 3 and 5 Machel?
Yes, 1, 3, 3, 7, 9, 11, ?
it is on a test practice paper for the 11+, no answers supplied!
@Baz posted:27?
1+3+3=7, 7+9+11= 27,
we thought of that but it is only two sequences whereas the other questions have 4/5 sequences x

It can't be this hard...not an 11+ test.
I passed mine back away too
1 3 3 7 9 11 11
1+2=3
3+0=3
3+4=7
7+2=9
9+2=11
11+0=11

We looked at this but there isnât a sequence, has to be a misprint! Brain well and truly fried ðĪŠððĪŠð
If the second 3 is not a misprint then the answer is 27, if it should be a 5 then 13.

Me too

I would agree with EL. There's no single clear pattern, so - assuming there's not a misprint - the two "3"s suggest two interweaved series:
1, 3, 3, 7, 9, 11, ?
The first series is 1, 3, 9, ? - this is 3 to the power of x, where x = 0 to 3, so "?" = 3 cubed = 27.
The second series is 3, 7, 11 - this is adding "4" each time, so the next number in the series after "?" would be 15.
There's still not that much info, IMO, to be certain that's what's going on, though. I'd want to see some of the other questions on the paper to confirm they're definitely doing interweaved series as part of the test.
Chicken Chow Mein with crispy noodles?
I ended up,by various means as 23,27 or 28ðĪĢâĶ..but my maths are lousy

The sequence doesn't have to be in the basic figures, but can be in the RELATION between the basic figures, or even the relation between what is relating the basic figures!

I looked at that one too, but dismissed it as it would likely mess up the paper!

How's things going with your Mother in law, has she managed to see the doctors yet?
Hi! Mother in law finally had her surgery scheduled, then postponed, then cancelled. After a major protest and a lot of phone calls she is on the schedule for surgery on Monday. Really scared they will cancel again she is in agony snd this has been going on for months. Everything crossed! ðĪ

"1"?
I'm assuming the sequence is a series of 3-digit numbers: the first two digits increase by 1 and the third decreases by two.
(...or to put it another way, you've got a series of 3-digit numbers, and your adding "108" each time...)

Coming in a bit late here...
This is a really nice puzzle: for those who haven't seen it before, it's usually presented like this:

Did you ever read Edward De Bono? Fascinating guy, my favorite of his ideas was to solve the problem of slow elevators, rather than coming up with a solution to speed them up, he suggested putting mirrors in the lobby instead!
