I still reckon she was essentially a one trick pony ....I would have liked to see her cooking more stuff that didn't have an Asian twist ....

Agree .........................some of the stuff she prepared was pretty amazing but - it always had an 'asian twist' - not terribly versatile.

She did well with the challenges...classical/modern British, etc
However Malaysian cooking is fantastic...we have a malaysian restaurant in our city and its by far the best for flavour.I found her dishes were really interesting and i think she was making them her own...they werent well known recipes rehashed...to be honest Im sick of seeing a lump of meat with some jus and mash and splodges of celeriac or carrot puree...its dull.

I know I am late to this thread but I've seen a few comments about Ping being a one trick pony, yet Jack, who I think is really good too stuck completely to 'French classic/Mediterranean' type cuisine yet wasn't called a one trick Pony.. He might have been called that if it had been Masterchef Malaysia
Ping did classic really well as well as her Asian food and that is why I wanted her to win, she was unflappable and good at any Style of dish. Jack was good but stayed pretty much on the same theme/style all the way thru. .am sure he will do well afterwards but he wasn't rounded enough to win for me..
Both of them went with their favourite style for the final so Jack did his usual classic and Ping did her usual Asian and Luke did his schizo food... nowt wrong with that..
Just my twopenn'orth
I think ,mas much as anything Olly , what annoyed me was that it became obvious about two weeks ago that she was the chosen one with John & Greg , despite Jack seemingly getting the most praise from the * outside* people ....one of which said his food was two michelin star standard.
I think I missed that .. .I usually go against the grain if I think they are favouring someone who doesn't appear to be as good as they are making out.. Yet altho I know they were lauding her praises I had her marked as the winner from early on because of her all round skills, cooking and kitchen work as well. . so maybe I just saw them confirming my own thoughts as opposed to favouring
