Not sure I like this new format. .it's gone down the route of the Aussie one and they bought it off us and fiddled with the way it was done...

their elimination process is not based on performance over a period of time but on one test and the worst of each test goes even if they have been really good over a period of time and just had one mishap.. 

Will wait and see how our new one goes.. first two shows bored me rigid tho .. preferred  last seasons format to this one

I'm just watching the first one now... I'm quite liking this audition stuff.     I also like Greg - I love someone who loves their food that much.

So am I Kaffy (how the heck are ya anyway? ) I really do love this programme, and the new format looks alright so far.

Yep.. anything that spins the series out long works for me.   I'm still just the first episode's cook off... I'm backing Polly (and i love the carpenter guy that got through earlier)


Edit now I've watched.... glad Polly got through... don't like the guy that got through - bit smug and pompous for me.

Why did they decide to follow the Aussie format and make it more X-Factor than Masterchef?!
I watched the first prog but didn't bother with the second. Might watch the later ones if they actually concentrate on food, taste and cooking.

I loved the taste test they used to do, it really did sort the chefs from the amateurs.

I appear to be watching a cookery programme fronted by Mitch Tonk (wanker) and Matt Dawson (rugby wanker).

I like that too, Katerina - I'm assuming that this will come when the competition proper starts with the chosen 20?    I'm just seeing the early shows as a bit of added stuff.  I hope that's how it'll be anyway.

I hope it gets better......the competition starts properly tomorrow night.

Didn't like tonight's show much, the high pressure is a turn off for me, the way they have to walk with their plate to the judges, and then take it away again.
The blue and black in the scenery is off-putting, I preferred the orangey, warm tones of the last series.
And the crying........jeez did they put raw onions in their mics or something?!

At the moment it's way too X Factor/Pop Idol. But hope it improves tomorrow when the contestants have to cook for the previous Masterchef champions.

i thought it was too sob story time tonight and thought the big guy - forgot his name should have got through instead of that last woman - the first woman got on my nerves as well

Meh, am not enjoying this series as much. It's too stressful to watch!! Didn't like the John Torode 'Mr Nasty at the pass' bit when they were getting their dishes ready.

I miss the old auditions that used to last a few weeks, then we were ready for the stress in the restaurant kitchens.

I've not tuned into this series..looks like I'm not missing much.I actually yearn a bit  for Lloyd Grossman etc.

Katerina I agree with you - he was trying to be a bit "Gordon Ramsay" wasn't he? Didn't suit him.

They've messed with the format too much - why they've changed it, I've no idea.

Katty I loved the Grossman days.

I am watching Masterchef, but am a programme behind (watching yesterdays now), so trying hard not to read back...so if I repeat what someone has said I apologise  I have to say that I prefer Michel Roux to John Torode....

Baz did you watch Michel Roux's Service on BBC2 recently where he awarded the scholarships to the youngsters - I thought it was a great programme -hope he does another series

 Ah, now I've never watched the professional series of Masterchef but I might now that I know he is involved 

He just seems a lovely, patient man.

I don't think I could cook under that amount of pressure... all their dishes were presented immaculately too

Oh you really ought to watch the Professional one Miss S.... it's good And yes, I think he does seem strict, but very fair..... I like Great British Menu too

Never watched Great British Menu - I think that was on pretty early in the evening and so I wasn't home from work in time.

I think I'm just fascinated by these programmes because I am such a crap cook
