depends if they like clumpy "extending" mascara - cos of the current fashion to have something that looks like a pair of ferrets on your eyelids...
(like my daughter does)
or if they like a decent non clumping mascara...
if its the latter then I always get Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara from the dog at christmas (seriously.. for some reason, MrD allocates the mascara as his pressie to mummy )
Its my fave.. and despite its non-ferret like qualities, my daughter seems happy to nick mine!
This is a must have
For nights out I use step 1 and 2 together for big long full lashes. Daytime only I wear step 1 on it's own, it lengthens but not in a ridiculous way and looks lovely on. The Step 2 is for a thicker lash look and is perfect for nights out.
I don't know how many people I have recommended it to who have switched and loved it.
Bourjois says:
KILLER VOLUME! NO CLUMPS GUARANTEED!
The new Volumizer mascara works in just 2 steps to build up to 11 x more volume, clump-free.
Its secret? AN INNOVATIVE TRANSFORMABLE BRUSH*.
Choose the volume that suits best your style or the occasion:
- Use Step 1 for extremely defined lashes with 2 x more volume, perfect for the day or if you want to focus on your lips.
- Use Step 1+2 for dramatic lashes with up to 11 x more volume with no clumps, perfect if you want the ultimate show-stopping eyes.
I buy it in Boots and it's currently ÂĢ10.49 AND it's also on buy one get 2nd half price deal.
I want one of those now

I just want one that doesn't give me panda eyes. Currently I'm using Boots 17 (I know!!!!) can't rember which one - black and purple tube and it's the best I've had for not smudging in ages.

L'oreal voluminous x5 I really like it.Years ago I used Bourjois mascara but it got discontinued.
I use any offer from Boots (within reason) for daytime and this one for nights out - I love it but wouldn't use it all the time (i go through quite a bit)
YSL
Lancome or MAC usually. But anything will do in times of urgency.
Ells I read some reviews that say step one is great for the daytime look but step 2 is like applying mascara with a spatula.
Other reviews say it's very similar to MAC's Haute and Naughty wand with MAC being the better of the two .

It's quite thick It does look a little like false lashes if it's applied in 2 or 3 layers but I love that effect for nights out.
I'm not one for spending loads on make up so it was a great find for me and being able to use it for day AND night makes it even better

Benefit Bad Gal I got a tester on a magazine recently and I'm now a convert. I don't like the clumpy 'ferret' look that Ditty described so I like something that looks more natural but still gives good definition. It separates and lengthens really well without any clumpage, and I've had the tester tube for AGES now and it's still going strong
Oh and I have sensitive eyes and this doesn't irritate at all, can wear it all day with no problems. I had clinique before this and that was ok, not as much definition and would start to 'itch' by the end of the day. I've tried a few others, YSL fake lashes something or other was recommended and was clumpy as all hell , Estee Lauder false lash effect was quite good
Oooh darlings, there's just so many to choose from. I couldn't possible pick.

Is that how you have ended up with so many?
Does anyone remember Dark&Beautiful from Channel 4 days? She had a constant/long running mascara thread.
In all honesty the ads make you go ooooooh and ahh but ............none of them really live up to the hype do they?

I'm like a squirrel hoarding his nuts.

Nah, I think if you want mega lashes, then you have to go with the false ones.... I've never tried that, the thought of glueing something next to my eyeball

In the seventies I wore false eyelashes top and bottom day and night.
I'd buy a new top and bottom set every week - they were my 'going out' set - the following week they became my work set.
They were 55p a set - ÂĢ1.10 out of ÂĢ11 per week was a pretty hefty sum - the thing is - once I started wearing them I couldn't stop as I actually looked ill without them
I broke the habit when I changed jobs. I did wear them on my wedding day though.
I never wore the really heavy fake looking ones - I wore either 'Miners Flighty Lash' or 'Rimmel Bambi Lash'.
Happy Days!

I had an horrendous experience with that a year gone August, I used it for the first time before going to a party: my eyes started watering within about an hour and as the night wore on my vision became more and more blurred. I assumed I was having an allergic reaction, ( I've always had v sensitive eyes,) so just washed it off and pretty much ignored it because I was having so much fun! Next morning I woke up in absolute agony, couldn't open my eyes and when I forced them open I couldn't see, so was rushed to a specialist eye hospital because they thought I was going blind Turned out that hundreds of tiny fibres had fallen off and had been scratching my cornea every single time I blinked, so I had literally millions of abrasions. I can't even begin to describe the pain for the next week or so. I now only use a v light mascara and only on special occasions as I'm way too scared that it could happen again.
Owwwwwwww Supes that sounds bad!
I've used that Benefit Bad Gal before, it was fine for me. A nice daytime look though not great for night. I won a whole Benefit set from the Diet Coke bottles earlier this year
Max Factor Masterpiece MAX Mascara
I always buy the black / brown .... If you search Ebay for this product, you can pick it for for around a fiver

Me too, without incident, never again!
