Noirin isn't discouraging Marcus at all, though. You don't apply lipgloss with your finger whilst looking straight at someone if you don't like the attention, IMO.

IMO Noirin did not expect Tom to back off so quickly, she said what she did to Marcus because Tom was not showing any interest. If she can get Tom's attention again she will start playing them off one another.
