I actually enjoyed it and thought tonight tied up all ends rather than being an anti climax.
Me too shar..I'm glad it was ended on an English type ending unlike that American stuff where every end has to be tied up and they all live happily ever after....
Yep ... I thought it was nicely done.  Not too far-fetched (apart from getting your head around the fact that Alice is a ghost )

I haven't been in this thread too much, but it occured to me from a fairly early time that her grandad was involved, but it would have been so much better if he had actually had a hand in her death, rather than this fizzling out excuse of an arrangement.
But he did have a hand in her death and kept it a secret, which was bad form....
But so did Olive. She dared her to go upstairs. If she hadn't, nothing would have happened. I'm not excusing the grandfather (seeing that I thought he'd somehow killed her for one reason or another), but this ended in a damp squip, again. ITV are great for starting dramas, but carp at resolving them.
Olive was only 8yrs old, the grandad should never have taken Alice where he was doing his rudes..I enjoyed it....

Me too shar ... I liked the end

Mind you, I am a total wuss - I don't like scary stuff
I loooooove scary stuff Rexi ... but I thought this was more a classic ghost story, which is more atmospheric than scary. And it was a good story - good plot well held together.

Hi Shar - nice to see you
i would have liked to know more about the middle family and what happened to the daughter
Nice that the old Ruth had no intention of drowning the baby - nicely done I thought

I agree that the grandad should not have taken Alice for his afternoon delights, but I don't agree that it was scary and tonight we were told that she wasn't going without a fight, but all that happened was that whatsherface in the late 80s saw her and finally agreed that there was something strange in the house. Why could she not have trusted her daughter? I've waited for 4 weeks for a great big solution, but it didn't happen. Not for me anyhoo.

Hi Ros

You have a point re the middle family ... while we saw her brother in the later story, we learned nothing more about her.  I hadn't thought about that.  I still did feel they did a very good job on the plot and the suspense throughout though.

After Paul got the results from his Sperm test, I thought that maybe the Grandad was actually Alice's father, having raped Ruth. I was a million miles out. I didn't like the Grangmother , the character, not the actress, well acted, but I just didn't like the woman.
I could see why he would stray.

I was so much looking forward to the last one, but it did feel a bit like a damp squid! I thought perhaps Alice had been murdered, but all she wanted to tell was that her granddad had a "fling". I dont know why Olive blamed herself, guilt maybe. Plus it wouldve been nice to know how Amy turned out. All in all tho it was a good story, and a bit sad. Poor Alice

Brilliant series this was!   I wish that the ending had been a wee bit more sinister though, like the grandad had murdered Alice for spotting him having an affair.  And yes that woman was pretty unlikeable.. (the one playing the nan.)  But the couple (Alice's grandparents....,) on the whole struck, me as a  a certain type of typical couple of the time: not in love and not even liking each other but staying together because it was what was expected of them.  Divorce was rarely an option then as it was massively frowned upon.
