just awful!

my mum died of the same thing 6 years ago. they were really quick and helpful and she died despite this, this guy may have too. but to mess about like this when you have an emergency patient in the back just.....there are no words

i've only worked in tesco and some kennels but i've stayed on to get my job finished before i go...especially during emergencies which sometimes crop up in kennel work

can't believe he was so selfish!

Hope the paramedic is sacked. If he had carried on straight to the A&E it would have only added on an extra 15-30 minutes onto his shift. Why do people enter the caring professions when they clearly don't care?

There was a similar case here a while back. A patient died after a heart attack, and the ambulance wasn't despatched for something like 40 minutes because the crew were on a break. They really need to sort this sort of mess out.

Edit to add - the crew were backed up by their bosses.

it is awful i work at a hospital and quite often get off 30mins+ late,and i would never leave during an emergency,i dont get paid for the extra time i work,i just have my own peace of mind that ive left when its safe too.

Yes the ambulance arrived four minutes later than it would have done had he not detoured but that doesn't mean a thing, those four minutes could have saved that poor souls life!

What a cock... He should be fired and blacklisted from ever working in that, or a similar profession ever again.

There was one a couple of months back where two paramedics arrived at the home of a bloke who'd had a heart attack.

They didn't realise his phone was off the hook and still connected to ambulance control, where staff heard them mocking the state of this poor bloke's house (he lived alone and it was a tip) and deciding not to bother trying to resuscitate him.

I think at least one of them ended up sacked. People like these and the one in the OP give the rest of the service a bad name, as I'm sure the vast majority do a fantastic job.

I have to use ambulance services three times a week. I know they are different than paramedics, but some of them should not have that job. They moan and whinge about the slightest things and then refuse to work weekends (only Saturdays).

Some of them are borderline racists, judging a few of the comments they make.

Having said all that, the majority do a fantastic job - the couple of times when I did have to use an ambulance with paramedics they were wonderful and caring. It's a shame that a few ruin it for the whole profession.

My sister is a paramedic and she's absolutely disgusted with this guy! I've seen my sis cancel holidays at the last minute cos of shortage of staff, with no refund either.

It gives the rest of the profession a bad name when most of them are really dedicated.

Shocking and I hope the crew get fired. Whether or not the patient would have died anyway is beyond the question. The ambulance crew were remiss in not putting their patient before themselves.

I have always stayed late in my jobs in order to finish something or to tie up loose ends but mine never involved anything of an emergency nature.

Words fail me quite frankly.
