If you have no genetic background etc of breast cancer,You don't get mammograms 'till you are 50.
They state "young" breast tissue is denser than older tissue, therefore problems don't show up on mammograms etc.

There is a vast genetic background in my family which is why I have them every year. It's only cos I have a bit of a problem at the mo that I went today. Turns out they think I have calcium deposits and need a follow up.
But wanted to ask, are you saying that cos I'm under 50 things may not show up?

I'm in my early 40s and because of a family history of breast cancer I have mammograms. It's true that they don't always show up abnormalities but if the consultant sees anything he/she thinks may be suspicious, they usually send you for an ultrasound which is much more effective in younger women. Women who have not been through the menopause can have calcium deposits which need to be investigated just in case but generally turn out to be nothing serious.

Problems do show up...though quite often they can be cysts which will aspirate once they stick the big huge needle in it!
They can also scan to have a look in more detail.
I've not had one yet. but I'm not looking forward to it. My mother says they're murder. Although she does have lils you could re-float the Titanic with

I hope they don't tell you to have a stereo core biopsy because you will be stuck in the mammogram machine for up to an hour. Thats what happened to me when I had a stereo core biospy because of calcium deposits earlier this year.

Thanks Pengy I had an ultrasound after my mammogram today. I'm sure all will be ok, just need to follow up on stuff to be sure I suppose.

I had a cyst diagnosed in Feb that had been causing me pain for months and now the pain's back worse than before. Have never heard of calcium deposits and had a quick look and they seem pretty harmless I'm sure it will all be fine and I'm worrying over nowt.

There are two different types of breast calcification, micro and macro. This LINK will explain the differences.

Thank you I'll take a look now
I dunno what the percentage is but i know that the majority of stuff that is turned up on mammograms etc is pretty harmless.quote:Originally posted by Karma_:quote:Originally posted by FGG Aka Crocodile Rock:quote:Originally posted by Karma_:quote:Originally posted by kattymieoww:

And of the stuff that's not harmless a lot is easily dealt with too so no point worrying about it.

Have you no cabbage?
cabbage leaves are recommended.

They just get a bit panicky cos it's rife in my family Gyps. Out of 10 aunties and uncles on my mums side 5 have had it, now cousins are getting it too. Dont have a clue about my dads side Meh, it'll be ok, just nowt over nowt I'm sure Seeing the doc tomorrow and they'd better not start bloody poking me or they'll lose their teeth
Karma, it'll all be fine Although I am a little concerned for the doctor you are seeing tomorrow, if you need bailing let me know!

Cabbage leaves dont work. When I had K my mum came armed like something out of Crackerjack with about 6 cabbages and made me walk around the hospital with these bloody green leaves sticking out of my bra. I walked around like a bloody idiot for 3 days with these things and they did nowt. It's not that kind of pain croc, it's a lot sharper and my lil's so hot you could fry an egg on it.
I thought mastitis but that's been ruled out
And it's more to the side going underneath my armpit aswell
