You have them standing up, stripped to the waist. They ask you to place your boob against a plate glass and the machine presses up to your boob and it takes a picture. Mine were painful but that's only cos I have had problems recently, but I've been told they generally don't hurt and it's over within minutes and you forget about it the minute you're out of there. Well worth the few minutes discomfort for something that could save your life.

I did have one about 15 yrs ago as my Mum died 15 yrs ago last Saturday from BC. It was only a tiny 'discomfort' as they squashed your boobs - I'm worried now as I need to have a check, going by statistics/my Mum etc and I'm now 51 (My Mum was just 58 when she died) and I haven't even had a call for a check. I live in Wales. I think I'll have to check during my next 'prescription check'.

Please don't worry about it; it only takes a few minutes, and it is important to have it done.

It's really not usually painful; uncomfortable, and slightly embarrassing, but that's all.
The mobile units (if that's where you're going) are staffed only by women, and they're very good with nervous clients; I was a complete jelly when I went for mine, but they were very kind and considerate.

Better than having your prostate gland checked, I should imagine.

I'd rather have a finger up me jacksy.

But that's just me

I was was meant to start having them at 33 because me ma died young from it, but I  never heard anything, and I'm not pushing for it because I think it would hurt too  much, and to be honest I think I would rather not know...

I don't have to imagine; I've had both, and a mammogram is definitely less uncomfortable, and much less embarrassing. I'm so pleased that my prostate isn't going to need any more attention...

I did not know that you would need mammograms,  but I suppose with the hormones and that ...my boss is a consultant who works with gender patients, and M to F who have undergone hormone therapy at a later age, after 60, still need prostate checks; and F to M still need smears.

Anyone with breast tissue can get breast cancer; I've even seen a few men come through my theatre with it.

And i know it's possible for trans women to have prostate trouble; but that's usually those who transition very late in life, and/or are on low doses of oestrogen.
One of my friends transitioned at 67; she already had prostate symptoms, but she's OK now.

Of course, I'm stoopid, I just didn't think they would do a mamm as routine without there being symptoms (like a lump) in a gender patient.

Yeah,my boss said that those transitioning after 60 would need the old DRI (nice  :yow:  )  because problems might already be present.

(Sorry to keep saying 'patients',  I work in a hospital, do you? You said about those  going thru 'your theatre'?)
