Regarding Srees comments on Freddies dyslexia, not surprising really but theres lots of interesting threads on DS about it. It's upset some people obviously that have to deal with that kind of thing , but complaining to C4 or OFCOM is maybe taking it a bit too far.

Always amazes me the things people go running to Ofcom about. Some people even complained about the fish last year.
sim pippl hef nuffin betar too do
As upsetting as it was why do people have to go to offcom it is no wonder there is no LF and that is the reason why

The people at Ofcom must groan at this time of year, some people would complain about anything
I suppose that some of the complainants simply want to see Sree kicked out and are trying to manipulate C4 as it manipulates the viewers

I honestly believe he meant nothing by it- something got lost in translation

Sree Script translation:
"You are the dyslexia student from Oxford" means -
"I know you overcame adversity and your dyslexia, and indeed managed to gain an Oxbridge place despite such dfficulties"

Absolutely. The programme by it's nature will throw up controversy. Are we so brainwashed that every utterance has to be disected to make it fit our moral outrage?
I may phone them up about Marcus insinuating that I need a good seeing to!

I would write. In triplicate. Copy it to your lawyer. In fact have your lawyer speak to their lawyers.
Coming from an artistic profession, I've studied and worked along aside a considerable amount of dyslexic people. It is a disability, and one that can cause a lot of stress and anxiety for sufferers. It impacts their every day lives. So what Sree said to Freddie was callous, no question.
As far as the Ofcom complaints go, I personally wouldn't complain, but then I'm not a sufferer. I can absolutely see why dyslexia sufferers, and even those emotionally close to sufferers, would complain.
I'll put it this way. If a housemate had said to mikey last year "What colour is the kitchen ceiling? That's right, you are the blind man of BB9", think of how many complaints Ofcom would have received.

The point is, Sree did not mean it in that sense.
In fact he had a civilised conversation with Freddie last night in which he also referred to him as the dyslexia student.
He simply means that Freddie has dyslexia and managed to overcome it in order to continue his studies. It was not meant to be an insult.

I thought I was the only one who saw it that way, when I read the other thread!
After seeing him last night I think that he meant it in the you have overcome difficulty and has done well for himself. I definately believed it was lost in translation.
I saw it as insulting Freddie but I saw him last night talking to Freddie and again made the same comment, I seen it in a different light as the others have said I dont think it was meant to be an insult ,and I am not Sree fan

I didn't see it as an insult either
Wonder if it would be shown in the hls tonight

, Sree does tend to jump into conversations without thinking and he does get muddled up at times. He also mentioned it during garlic gate, so maybe he is jealous Freddie is at a better uni? .

That's Sree all over really: very lost in translation.

Me too!!
Remember English is not Sree's first language, and as Blizzie said I think something may have been lost in translation.
I'm a bit overweight - I think I will contact OFCOM about Angel's comments.

What, exactly, are they complaining about? That it was shown on the show and the editors shouldn't have done that?
I'm not sure hoe Sree meant it to come across TBH .......it is really quite hilarious though the misunderstandings that his 'English' causes .........when he says to Noirin .........No no you have made a mistake - she sees red because she thinks (as did I for a while) he was talking about her behaviour when in fact he means 'you're misunderstanding me'.
It takes me back to the very non PC days of 'Mind Your Language'.
Sree would have made a great character in that

Have people not got better things to do than worry about things like this?

I have to say I took sree's original comment to Freddie about his dyslexia as an insult to Freddie and I do think he meant it as an insult ... Far from being a matter for Ofcom to worry about though ...
