There are 4 of us here now that are laptop dependent.   But I am the one who thrashes them the most.

I loved my Asus..   you got a lot of laptop for your money..    and in fairness it lasted a good couple of years.. but it literally wore out.   letters wore of the keyboard, then the touchpad literally got bald patches on it..   then keys started coming off & I was typing directly on rubber nipples....

and since then its been a Hewlett Packard sponsored nightmare (It was going cheap on Gumtree)...    That lasted less than 6 months..   now I have stolen Ickles HP (cos she has an iPhone)

An equivalently priced laptop running linux(and set up right) makes a mac look like a calculator

It might be as flowery as the prom dress in the shop..   it might be the same style as the prom dress in the shop..    but at the end of the day its still the dining room curtains

If I come away from Microsoft Muf...  it'll be to go over to Apple.      My brother is very pro LInux, and I do see its benefits..

how can you resist it all?

If I was surrounded by all that tech, the kids would have to learn to fend for themselves, the dog would be flabby & Mr D would be even more neglected than he is now

I'm not very techy Ditty. He needs it for all his architecture stuff and I still write things with a pen and draw graphs and get other people to powerpoint the whole shabang.

Ditty, when I bought this I seriously couldn't afford it... but that ÂĢ850 Samsung one had died after less than 2 years, (okay I did go for the shiny, girly overpriced one!)....It just made sense to pay that little bit extra for something which was FAR better, with FAR better after sales service etc. that would last sooo much longer, (she hopes!)

I'm sure the iPhone & iPad are not purely for the architect stuff..    (though kudos to him for justifying them that way! )

I still wouldn't be able to resist..

I would be an architects nightmare wife

Yeah..  I think my mind is made up on this.

I will have to save up.   But I am working now...    I might even consider doing an extra day a week at work for it....

Ooh!  yes!   then... I have earned it, I won't have to feel all guilty (like I did last year when I treated myself to a pair of Uggs )

And this is SO much better than the Uggs!

I am not sure that is possible..    8 months I have had the Uggs...  and they still make me smile   (it only took 2 months for the underlying guilt to subside)

Though I got one of them there 40gig classics which (IMO) were far superior to the 80gig next gen classic

Still as good as new over 4 years later too

*edit* the headphones are shite though

My brother in law gave me a nano when they first came out...

so its a first generation one..

its served me well..   but the battery is pretty much dead.    I have a charger in the car..   but when walking the dog I have to put it on one playlist & not mess with it...   any track skipping or scrolling around & I don't make it all the way round the woods til before it dies

I think my (crappy basic white) mac is getting on for 3 years old now... no letters rubbed off, no grubby marks on the white, no scratches. I mean, I'm always careful with my stuff, but I'm pretty impressed <3

Mac is way out of my price range at the mo...though I'm on the hunt for a new gadget...i don't know what but I want something pretty and gadgety to wow me   My phone is great, so not looking to upgrade that, I don't want a kindle, I prefer an actual book in my hands and knowing you're getting near the end the more pages you've passed   I was thinking of an ipad...but I'm not sure I want to go to that expense.  Sorry for the waffle, has nowt to do with the thread but I just thought I'd share all that with you
