This story just twists and turns.
I`m outraged that Brown has had to step down, due mainly, to a party that has 57 seats. He`s done it for the good of his party and this country and I applaud him for it. He`s a man of integrity. He doesn`t have the necessary charisma that seems to be more important these day. It might not be obvious right now but watch out..he`ll be a sad loss.

My sentiments exactly Scotty, he's been lambasted by the tory press and unfairly IMO

I couldn't agree more ......it's a sad day when people can't see behind a polished image. He's a tough talking, rough diamond but .......underneath it all he has the best interests of this country at heart. And - he has a heart - I'll not forget how he was pulled apart for a poorly written letter to a dead service mans family. FGS - he wrote that letter (by hand) and from the heart. A good man - a sad loss but unfortunately (obviously in the current climate) un electable.Reference:

And also the small matter of allowing the Country to fall into the deepest debt since the 1930s.

He has Dame but what I`m hearing now on the news from some of his own Labour people (desperate to stay in goverment at any cost) is tantamount to disloyalty. I`m disgusted.
I'm fairly certain that he would have stepped down regardless ......perhaps the timing may have been different. He's not a fool ................he would have looked at the results and taken the view that it was somehow down to him (or the way he's perceived).

It is disgusting Scotty and to be honest I think the worst scenario I personally was hoping for. For all those that moaned about how bad we had it, I was dying to see what words of wisdom we were going to hear from The Invisible Osborne!

He was always going to go IMO Soozy, and it's a shame.

Gordon's first test at the poll equated to a loss of 100 seats. Obviously, he has to go, for the sake of his party.
I hope Lib Dems don't use this as an opportunity to coallie with Labour. That would be a tragidy for democracy in this Country if the parties who came second and third ended up ruling while the party who came first remain in opposition.

I hope that this doesn't apply to Cameron who after all snatched defeat from the jaws of absolute and certain victory. What a lead to throw away! Those of us who wish to see Labour retain power need him to stay the distance.Reference:

Absoloutely ..................with all the press and the money behind them they still couldn't carry it off. It would appear that they're too far up their own ar***s to come to a deal with the Lib Dems too ..............quite frankly they deserve to stay in oppostion. Just because they gained the most seats .......doesn't make them winners!
Con/Dem never sounded like a good idea.

Dame, thank you for saying that. I was giggling about this with my hubby. When he does surface, he's always hovering at the back of some scrum, grinning inanely and looking a little bewildered

Good post soozy and I agree although I think he`s unelectable due to the tory press slating him unfairly at every given opportunity. The example you gave about the letter..being just one of them. Of course, that wouldn`t have effected his position but blaming the recession on him.. did. They chose to ignore the fact that it`s global.Reference: Marguerita

I`m not too sure about that Dame. He had a lot more to do for this country and being the man he is..he wanted to see that through. His hand`s been forced, not only by the 57 seat Lib Dems who are holding this country to ransom but now it seems, by his own people, who imo, have stabbed him in the back. Holding power is important but at what cost? We`ll see.Reference: Joe

I agree he was pushed into resigning earlier Scotty, but I think his position may have become impossible and he would have had to go at some point. I really think he would have put the party first and resigned. Like you I believe he was a man of integrity and believed in a fairer society, shame that not enough of the voters believed that.I also agree it's an unfair system that leaves one of the three main parties with the least seats dictating who becomes PM. Unfortunately for now that's the system we are having to work with, personally I would rather the Tories made a government as they had the most seats and we then have another election, because in my opinion that's where we are heading and in the very near future.
This is going too far! My (nearly) 2 year old twins appear to be becoming politicized. One of them just shouted out 'I like that man!' when Cameron popped on to the screen....so time to switch over from News 24 to Nick jr.
