LOL.. bless! I've done that too Lil... pulled up seedlings, and nurtured weeds!
My Pak Choi lettuce have bolted... so we pulled them up yesterday.
My little gem lettuces have about 4 leaves on them.
My mixed leaf lettuces ... batch 1 is harvestable... batch 2 has just started to germinate.

yes but they never talk back
you see i pot up seeds then they don't appear so i use the compost for other things - then a year later a turnip is growing out me ivy
Classical music, plants supposedly love that. If they don't grow, at least you will be all calm and serene about it

Could be due to root damage on transplanting
Get yourself some biodegradable peat pots 2", 3" or 5" and put one seed in each, once they are set and ready to move, just plant the whole pot out, no need for root damage when transplanting
i adore gardening - i love getting my welllies on and digging up stuff wiff me wilkenson spade
i love washing plant pots - and shuffling them about in different positions
i dream of alan titchmarch at least once a week

Wyvales or Wilkinsons do them, also loads of online places as well
Lil... I plant my seeds in the plastic trough planters... that way I don't need to transplant my seedlings... but I can move them away from slugs and snails and stuff.
My little gems are in the ground.... and, through error, I bought the seeds that come on tape... so you just put the tape on the soil and bingo perfectly spaced lettuces. I will be using the seed tape one again.. is good.
Pak Choi... grows really really fast! throw some seeds on some soil... and water!

I wouldn't! If you use the soil from Veg Grow Bags (cheaper than a bag of compost)... it has all the nutrients in it to grow 1 crop of most veg!
(I grow runner beans from a grow bag... against a fence with a trellis on it)

You dont need Baby Bio yet, fresh compost will have enough nutrients in them for a good 4-6 weeks, by Baby Bio(ing) them you are giving the roots to much energy making the main plant struggle to cope

blimey this is fantastic stuff
i planted some seeds in a green plastic trough 'thingy' and put em under a propagator 'thingy' malarkky
NOTHING!
I don't like plastic anything in the garden but sometimes it's a must
My parsnips have appeared in a tiny pot and they look good
I ordered some mixed salad leaves and even BLACK basil NOUGHT
I think the seed provided just bunged in poppy seeds from the top of a sainsburys loaf and posted them off to me
Should I try planting in the ground - will they fair ok in the rain?

Dontcha just love LIL?
Instead of Baby Bio, just buy yourself a liquid tomato feed that you dilute with water, its far cheaper and lasts longer
Google J.Arthur Bowers peat pots, lots of entries and they are excellent
Lettuce and salad leaf seeds will germinate outside... no need for plastic or propagator lid or nuffink!
They are about as easy as it gets.... it feels like nothing happens at first... but when they start to take off... its happy salad days!
I've never grown parsnips... I have grown carrots and to be honest it seemed like a lot of effort, and time, for a few very nice carrots (plus carrotfly got to most of them )
The crops I have found work for me (i.e. they either save money, or are worth the effort cos they taste so good, or both are:
Lettuces
A Gardeners Delight Tomato Plant (cherry toms)
A Moneyspinner Tomato Plant (bigger toms)
Lark F1 Sweetcorn
Runner Beans
Peas (can't remember type...)
Pak Choi
Stuff I did once and won't do again =
Cucumbers (scary triffid like plants... horrible cucumbers)
Potatos... but I will try again.. I think I had a bad year
Onions - cos they are cheap at the shop
Carrots - carrotfly grrrrrr

Ooop.. grew Cape Gooseberrys & Butternut Squash last year ... they were fab... heavy croppers... very little work!

Agree! I use Levingtons Tomorite (cos it has Seaweed Extract in it). And a weekly feed on anything that is flowering or fruiting works wonders... (including ornamental flowers.... my dahlias love a bit of tomorite!)
I have loads and loads of lettuce!! thinned them out and they're still going!Even the guinea pigs cant keep up with the amount I've got!
Mine was all pretty much like Dirts, all lot was all trial and error.
I currently have beets, radishes, spring onions, shallots, lettuce, sprouts, swede in the ground...i think i might have over done it
and in containers, radishes, spring onions, cucumbers, corguettes, lettuce, carrots, sweet peppers, inferno peppers, toms cherry and beef, and finally, first and second potatoes in potato containers.
Herbs are dotted all over the place
