I am amazed when I hear my hubbies memories of the 80's...   he doesn't remember much unemployment.. well "he didn't know anyone whos parents had lost their jobs, or anyone on the dole"...

I was just gob smacked!!!   His perspective of things... growing up in London, and mixing in the circles he mixed is just a different planet!

I still haven't got my head round it tbh

First one through door on day after election was called was BNP...
The only other ones we've had are Conservative, Labour and Lib-Dem.
Nobody has knocked on our door  or stopped us in the street  or even phoned us up to tell us the Tories will make us all unemployed  I was sooooo looking forward to arguing with people as well
We are a Tory safe seat here.

Our area originally conservative , presently labour - but new labour candidate as the other of 20+ years retired - so it is anybody's
Had a personal visit for tne Tory candidate but plenty of leaflets from plaid cymru, lib - dems, BNP (in  bin) , conservatives and Labour . Where i live is a mix of farms (all blue) and a mixture of housing - so orange and red as well

I think I had a 'coal not dole' badge...
I was the only one of my friends in my class (so group of about 10 of us) who's dad had a job!

Our Youth Club was made into a satellite job club to cope with the sheer volume of unemployed. (& it had the advantage of pool tables & dj booth

and I remember always buying some extra tins & bread when my mum did the weekly shop, to give to the miners family collection that was outside Asda.

My Dad had the bad luck good sense to be seriously injured in a pit collapse so he was out of the mines at that point.  We were ok, didn't affect us on a personal level...but I saw what happened to my friends families and what was left behind afterwards.  What's still left behind.
