Aye, to some heartless sods, it doesn't matter when they die, because you can always get another one. This is especially true of little, short-lived furries.

I've wept buckets every time one of my hamsters has died. Crying

Blimey! good age for a bunny! Thumbs Up

Eeker really Eeker Frowner i mean, i did know he was getting on a bit but what is the average age katty do you know?

Depends on the breed. The larger they are the less the lifespan.Big old Flemish giants etc are lucky to reach five years old.The average for most bunnies is 6 to 8 years old.You bunny is a grandad. They can hit double figures at times(ten) but rarely.

My old bunny Daisy was nearly 10 - she was a dwarf lop and it was amazing really as she had loads of health problems starting from when she was two - abcesses, tumours - you name it she had it - she just seemed to have the right temperament to get through it all, bless her.

I left it a while after my last dwarf hammies died, but in the end, the house just seemed too quiet without them pootling about in the corner. Big Grin
Now there's four more, but they probably all have less than a year left.. Frowner

When I read here that Corrie was changing from Wednesday's to Thursdays I didn't mind as so many times it was knocked off the screen because of football - I'm not a football fan lol.

Problem is I keep forgetting to watch on Thursdays Mad So I don't know what happened in Court yesterday with Becky, and don't know how the poor rabbit died Frowner

My bunnies are house rabbits, they are only caged at night to sleep. They roam free(slob about on the carpet) for over 12 to 14 hours a day in the house,as my stripped walls etc will show. They are my babies and are spoilt rotten.
Same goes for Mr.Jinks,my budgie, he is out of his cage more than in it,he flies free thoughout the living room and kitchen. He sits on my shoulder and chatters away to me.

Peter went to feed it and it was lying dead in its cage, Yellow Rose.
And Becky and Steve went to the Police Station to be told by the desk sergeant that all charges had been dropped.
Did you see it tonight, as both story lines were continued?

Oh thanks Moomin Valentine yes I watched tonight but didn't understand what led to both situations, rabbit and Becky Court stuff lol. I'm glad Becky's off the hook now. I always wish soaps wouldn't use animals in storylines as sooner or later they kill them off.

I know it's not real, and I've lived with the reality of lost pets many times and sad animal storylines bring it all back

Aww but Peter wanted a new rabbit but Simon didn't want to - there was also stuff yday about the death bringing up feelings about his mother *sniff sniff* And they had the nice funeral - I thought it was handled quite well!Plus Peter wanted to dupe Simon and buy him a new rabbit without telling him but Blanche told him that wasn't right!

And isn't "simon" sooo adorable?

It does annoy me too.Rabbits being a prey animal are totally silent and just lie quiet even when they are ill,it's up to observant owners to read the signs, not eating, lethargic etc.Rabbits have a very pro active gut, when it stops working properly they can be in trouble (Gut stasis) this needs a vet to treat, alas a lot of poor bunnies are stuck in a hutch at the bottom of the garden and looked at a couple of times a week.

That is when thy die etc.
MY little girl Cleo cost me over ÂĢ160.00 vets fees in the Spring. She was passing blood in her urine,a serious bladder infection, thought we might lose her.

If you are not prepared to pay that for vets treatments etc,do not get a pet!

Yes,it was an "allegory" really,Good old Blanche was right ,don't lie to children, they are more capable than we give them credit for.

Three of my rabbits lived into double figures. One was at least 11, the second one we think was 12, and one is still living and he is 11. I thought it was fairly common for them to live to a good age these days.

However I do dislike the, Oh well chuck it and get a new one etc.
Poor bunnies are the more abused and abandoned of pets.
Kids want a cute fluffy little bunnykins, they grow into big old stroppy boogers.Think before you buy them as pets. Frowner

hamsters too! in fact ANY pet you can just wander into a pet store and buy...it's just too easy

i'd say fish have the worst luck Frowner (not that i like fish..but hey..it's an animal and it gets overlooked)

Awww poor Simon he'll miss his bunny, but he was happy to see the real Leanne Big Grin. I'm so fed up of Becky now she is such a gimmick Mad glad I turned it off as I was getting bored and Sean was as vile as ever, all he does is folds his arms and does the same expressions plus the camp role is so easy to play and always has the same emotions he doesn't need any research to play that role anyway.

Cleo is just over two .one of her parents was a lion head ,the other a holland lop.

She is a lovely otter blue grey, with cream underbelly and a caramel cloured V at the back of her neck, she has longlish fur on her rump and feet. Smiler

They sound delightful. Thumbs Up

Thats BrianBunny in my av. He was a rescued bunny. Jack who lived to the age of 12 years was a Netherland Dwarf, with a beautiful silver coat. We rehomed him from our vet after all their children had left home for uni. ConnorBunny is a big, longhaired brown mongrel, I bought him from a petshop after being (wrongly) diagnosed with breast cancer 11 years ago. I had to cheer myself up before I left Inverness for home so we popped into the petshop in town. I just couldn't resist him as he was all on his own. Nobody wanted a plain common bunny. Frowner

I think rabbits live longer these days because there's more information available on correct feeding and care. Also, in my experience, young vets seem more on the ball when it comes to understanding about rabbits health.
