You and others with high cholesterol may be interested in this piece of news from the BBC today. Scientists are starting to think that the level of cholesterol is not wholly down to what we eat but is controlled in part by our brains. It is very early days in this research but in future there may be medication available which can take advantage of this.
Don't forget that there is bad cholesterol  - the saturated fats in dairy products and meat - and good cholesterol - polyunsaturated fats (Omegas 3 & 6) found in fish, leafy vegetables, whole grain cereals and bread. The more good cholesterol you have the lower the risk of a heart attack. Everybody needs some bad cholesterol but it's a case of not having too much rather than none, and also the good cholesterol.
Also if you eat a small bag of nuts each day (67 grams) (not sugared or salted ones) you lower your cholesterol by an average of about 7%.However the effect is less in overweight people.
