I love Chinese New Year..      I insist on being treated like a child/unmarried person (on account of my husband, & his family, NOT telling me about the red envelope thing before we got married)

found this in my laptop this morning  

and it was Char Sui Bau for breakfast! 

Dim Sum lunch tomorrow!!!  

KUNG HEI FAT CHOI!!!! 

and am gonna spend my red envelope money on RUM!!!!

its a tradition on new year/family get togethers

red is good luck

money should be even numbers like a tenner not a fiver

and i dont know much more than that 

Red Envelopes containing money (in even numbers) are given to the children & unmarried young people of the family, by the elders & married people of the family. 

Can be anything from a few pennies..  to a few quid..   

Its all part of the bigger theme around new year..  its about finishing unfinished business..  and you must pay all debts and not take any into the new year with you (hahahahahahahaha!  yeah right!)..     and about doing all these things to bring a prosperous & wealthy new year.

Its all about the money, money, money, kerching, kerching..  I tell ya! 

though as MrD points out..   money often did equate to good health & happiness..    

Me..   I am just wishing for more red envelopes & noodles..     gimme NOOOODLES! 

(oh..  & I have started on the rum!)

I read yesterday that red wine's become very popular in China because of that
