I want to learn how to cook, maybe bake cakes too, maybe not as I want to be healthy. Laugh
If anyone has a recipe even I, who can't cook, can follow and not burn my house down or die from, please post them. I'd be very grateful.

Any recipe would be helpful, I'm trying to learn how to cook after all. Smiler
Veggie stuff is equally good (Angel Wink ), as that will be good for losing my beerbelly, hopefully. Thumbs Up
Plus I love curry (Hicky Wink ) not as hot as vindaloo though. Eeker

Thanks. Smiler

Right.... this is from Puddychops who cannot seem to sign in to gaga at the moment Kev....

Butter Beans with Spinach

1tbs sunflower or canola oil
1 inch stick cinnamon
1 finely chopped onion
1 tsp ginger puree (you can buy this in a tube but I use fresh and pulverise it in a small blender)
1-2 green chillis seeded and finely chopped ( use rubber gloves to handle chillis or wash hands very very thoroughly after handling them - chilli accidently rubbed in the eyes is...............memorable)
Â― tsp turmeric
Â― tsp chilli powder
Â― tsp ground roasted cumin seeds
1 tsp ground roasted coriander seeds
(roast together in a small frying pan for less than a minute and do not allow to burn - cool and pound in a pestle and mortar or in a little dish with the end of a rolling pin or similar until almost a powder - alternatively use a pepper mill and grind finely)
8 oz tomatoes (250gms) (or a can of chopped tomatoes
1 tsp salt or to taste
9 oz spinach (I use a bag of baby spinach)
Large can butter beans drained and rinsed
2.5 fl oz of fat free half and half (I use low fat yoghurt - the cheaper and thinner the better)
2.5 fl oz warm water

In a non stick pan heat oil over low heat and sizzle cinnamon for 25 secs

Add onion ginger and chilli increase heat slightly and fry for 5/6 minutes Stir continually to prevent it burning and you can splash with water to avoid burning as well. The water will evaporate quickly but 1 tablespoon of oil doesn't go far, it just helps cook the spices and keeps the recipe low fat

Stir in turmeric, chilli powder, cumin and coriander – cook for 30 secs

Add tomatoes cook 4/5 minutes stir frequently

Add water and spinach until it wilts

Add butter beans and yoghurt or half and half

Serve with rice or nan bread

Those recipes sound a bit complicated...I was thinking we might be better to start him off with something a bit simpler:

Wash potato (one about the size of a small guinea pig)
***** it with a fork.
Put in microwave for 7 minutes (or in oven on hottest temperature for an hour and a half)
Put butter on it and eat.

(But it will be hot so careful you dont burn your mouth).

chilli con carne.
1. chop 2 peppers, 6 mushrooms and one onion into small pieces.
2. put these in a saucepan with 250g of quorn mince, small tin of sweetcorn, 1-2 teaspoons of chilli powder, 1 finely chopped clove of garlic, one tin of chopped tomatoes and 2 tablespoons to tomato puree, salt and pepper.
3. bring to boil and simmer for 15 mins.
4. drain and rinse a tin of kidney beans, add to pan and cook for another 5 mins.
6. serve with boiled rice.

these recipes will serve 4 but you can half the quantities and you can freeze this particular dish.

Chips.

Put on oven to highest bit.

Put oven chips in a metal tray.

Put that in the oven.

Leave them there for about 20 minutes. After 10 minutes open the door and shake the tray a bit but dont do this with your bare hands as this will hurt. So use oven gloves or a bunched up tea towel or jeans or something (not ones you are wearing).

Take out of oven after 20 minutes, tip onto a plate.

Put vinegar and stuff on.

Eat.

Wash the dishes.

Oh and turn off the oven.

Spaghetti Bolognaise

250g beef mince (the normal sized packs in supermarkets are 500g, so half a one of those)
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
Half an onion
1 clove of garlic
1 tsp tomato puree
About a shot glass of red wine
About 125g spaghetti (I get the 500g packs and just take out what looks like quarter of the packet, dont worry about measuring exactly!)

1. Chop up onion and garlic (use a garlic press to crush the garlic if you have one, I assumed you didn't! Big Grin)
2. Put a little oil into a frying pan and put it on a medium heat. When its warm, Add the onion and garlic to it.
3. Bring a saucepan of water to the boil.
4. Stir onion & garlic around til they soften, then add the mince. Cook that until there are no pink bits left. Add the tin of tomatoes, wine and tomato puree and stir well.
5. Simmer (bubble slowly - much slower than the boiling water) the mince/tomato mixture for about 15 minutes, and stir occasionally so it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan.
6. While that is simmering, put the spaghetti into the pan of boiling water - it will say on the packet how long it takes to cook, but its usually about 8-10 minutes... so wait 5 mins after you started simmering the mince so it will be ready at the same time Big Grin
7. Drain the pasta and put it onto a plate... pour the mince over it. You can put some grated cheese on top if you like. Eat and enjoy Big Grin

Sorry if any of that was too simplified - I dont know what you can do yet! Red Face

you can use home made stock to replace water
