Some of you may remember that last September we were proud new 'parents' to a surprise litter of 9 puppies after finding out our rescued pup Daphne was pregnant when we got her. We managed to find homes for them all with great people. Unfortunately, last week I got a call from one of the adoptees who had taken two of them. One of the pups had bitten someone and she needed to get rid of him asap. We've been in touch with all sorts of people trying to find him an alternative home as she felt he would have to be destroyed otherwise. The dog, Louis, is only 11 months old and bit the man because he was off his lead and the guy was a stranger coming into their garden. The guy he bit was fine about it but the owner got very anxious about it and felt as though she couldn't trust the dog anymore. He's excitable because he's still young and a little nervous because his owners are nice but very gentle people and not very authoritative. He's not an aggressive dog, just frightened. The RSPCA told her there was a waiting list of 6 months for re-homing and her vet said that she would recommend they destroy him anyway. We contacted the prison service who called to see him on Fiday but they rejected him for being too small for a sniffer dog and to timid to be a guard dog. Then my best mate told me about a couple she knows, both police officers who rescued a dog in similar circumstances 8 years ago. I spoke to them and they sounded just perfect. They don't have kids, I explained all about the dog, his background and his problems and they didn't seem phased by any of it. They've always had rescue dogs and are really into training. They said as long as the pup got on with their other dog they would have him. They all met up yesterday and the dogs played together really well and tomorrow he is going to spend the day with them at home. If all goes well, they will definitely give him a new home. I'm so anxious that this will turn out ok for Louis and he will get a second chance with a new family. He is very timid but loving and he just need the right people around him to give him the confidence and training he needs. Please keep your fingers crossed for him tomorrow.

Lil Louis, he'll be fine if there's any justice. I think they're overreacting a bit. He's just being a young pup, and a good one at that, defending his territory

Thanks everyone. I genuinely think he's a good dog, he just needs a firmer hand and a bit of time to mature. We'll know for sure if they'll take him tomorrow night so I'll let you know what happens.

My dogs bitten hubby a couple of times... it doesn't mean he's dangerous (personally I think it speaks volumes that it was always hubby he bit!!).

Awwwww , keeping my fingers & toes crossed for puppy Louis . I'm sure this is going to be just the right home for him to have a long & happy life . 
All puppies snap its just a firm hand that is needed, to let him know that its not the right thing to do.

i get worried about dogs like these cos lets face it, not many peeps want a dog that bites. not many people/places look into WHY it bites sadly, they just assume it's aggresive. i'm glad he seems to have found some understanding experienced owners...hopefully.

Just got a picture text sent to my phone from my best mate. It's a picture taken of Louis at lunch time, he's flaked out on the new couple's rug. He looks completely relaxed and exhausted so he must be having a good time there on his trial day. It's looking very much like they'll be taking him on permanently but I'll find out for certain later today, so do still keep those fingers crossed! I'm so hopeful this is going to work out.

Thanks to all who were keeping fingers crossed. It worked! Just confirmed that Louis has a new home. He's been round for a home visit/trial run today and they've fallen in love with him. He's played brilliantly with the new couple's older dog and it looks as though he'll settle really well with them. They're picking him up in 5 weeks after they come back from their honeymoon because they don't want to cause him any unnecessary distruption. I'm so relieved!
