I tend to agree. She is a intelligent woman and I would have thought that knowing she was now a major media target, going topless is a no-no regardless of whether she is on a private estate or not. It's hard for me to be 100% sympathetic as there is a bit of me saying "come on Kate, they will try anything to get pics of you, you are not going to be safe now. Don't do it".

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities

I dont care that Kate was topless - maybe careless yes but they do have a right to a private life away from the public eye just like the rest of us -both the photographer and editor have crossed the line IMO

I am really pleased they are breaking tradition and taking this issue to the Courts - France has privacy rules that permission must be sort to publish photos and for this alone they need taking to task - it isnt about the money - the magazine will be quids in from extra sales but this needs stomping on now to stop Kate having the persecuted life that Diana had with photographers and William will do his damnest to protect her

They have no choice to lay low and opt out of Royal duties they are our future King and Queen and for many years will be targets  - they will learn from this but in a hard way - William will have had old wounds opened today remembering just what his Mother went through at the hands of the baying photographers

Exactly.

And that is what is sad. Ok, we shouldn't forget but nor are we/William and Harry allowed to make it go away a bit. What is it we say ......time dulls it a bit, obviously not true in their case. I just wish the people who want to do damage to them at the price of a quick buck would get stuffed!

She probably didn't though Joe. I think it's a case of publish and be damned

She/they probably didn't even know until the pics turned up.

poor bloke, i don't care who you are or where you're from history repeating in this manor from mother to wife must be hard to take in, even if he hadn't made the comparison himself the media have put it out there so it must be tough...... btw i'm far from a royalist, they earn a wealthy life etc etc but this is different

but she wasn't at work.

I empathise. I really do. But she took on the whole kit and caboodle when she decided to marry William. Unless we see sense and embrace republicanism she will be the next queen (Queen Camilla possibilities aside) and that means she is always at work.

I would say she'd have been better indulging any urge to go topless in the UK but given the weather we're getting she'd probably have sported goosebumps bigger than her jubblies.

There you go! That's the point I wish I'd made! Although I think some of those judges still inhabit this time and space.

Yes I heard that interview. There might be a clash of culture, but no excuse, the French laws are very strict and I commend William for taking this further.

So do I. This needs nipping in the bud - so to speak

I haven't seen the pics and won't seek them out(just like the Prince Harry pics), but from comments I heard on the radio this morning, it seems that the photos were taken from about a mile away, and in some of the pics it doesn't seem like she's sunbathing, but getting changed.

If I went out with a telephoto lens and tried to take pictures of a complete stranger in their garden or on their private property, I'd be arrested! What makes the paparazzi so special?

A female 'celebrity' walks down the street and gets followed by a gang of men, just because they have cameras it's allowed?! I find it bizarre.

I also find it maddening that the public buy copies of these magazines packed with these pap pictures.

And that's where the problem lies Kat. If the public stopped buying they wouldn't print. I'm so glad I don't buy papers or mags

its been report he's not happy

Richard Desmond has announced that following the decision by the Irish Daily Star to publish the images, he will halt the deal under which his Northern And Shell company runs the newspaper in partnership with Ireland’s Independent News & Media.

Mr Desmond, said: “I am very angry at the decision to publish these photographs and am taking immediate steps to close down the joint venture. The decision to publish these pictures has no justification whatever and Northern & Shell condemns it in the strongest possible terms.”

Richard Desmond casts doubt on future of Irish Daily Star after it prints topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge

The future of the newspaper which printed topless pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge is in doubt after a publisher who jointly runs it said he was pulling out of the deal.

The images, which were taken while the Duchess was sunbathing on holiday in Provence, were not published in the the Northern Ireland or British editions of the Daily Star, which are run solely by Northern And Shell - also the publisher of the Daily and Sunday Express.

The decision to pull out of the Dublin-based edition raises serious questions over the future of the title.

Independent News & Media have also criticised the decision to run the photographs.

but she wasn't at work.

But what is her work?  her work seems to consist of being fawned over, going on holiday and sitting at the best seats at the Olympics and Wimbledon.  With privilege and profile comes responsibility.

I'm not 100% sure they're really bothered, as it keeps their profile high and public sympathy high.  Like it or not (and I think our Royal Family actually likes it) the Royal Family is part of tacky celebrity culture.

I also think it's a bit much to make spurious comparisons with Diana and the press.  Diana courted the press all the time and it was the royal family itself who ostracised her and plotted against her, much how they have with Fergie.
