"Are you a him or a her" Easy for him to make out its a language issue; I dont know so much. Either way it was a rude, unneccesary thing to say, whichever context it was meant. I know Lisa has her faults, but that was plain nasty. Really dont know who I want to win now; Probably Sophie. Wouldnt mind Dave, but thats never gonna happen.

I don't think he meant it like that. Lisa told him she was not a "her". He had learnt that a woamn is a her and a man was a him. She said she wasn't a her so he thought he had it wrong.
I would like Lisa to try and learn another language and do as well as Rodrigo does. She could start with English!

yeah i dont think he was being nasty, i think he was saying "well you arent a HIM so you must be a HER" - if you get me, in response to Lisa saying " her???"
I think Lisa meant in a round a bout way that rodrigo should have used her name.
In 12 weeks of BB he as never referred to Lisa as "her" now suddenly its "her" Why didn't he just say Lisa if he wasn't trying to be rude?
Cant agree with you on this I think he was quite aware of what he was saying. "Her" is rude. I cant make up my mind whether or not the rest of the comment was meant to be taken as it came across , but I am sure he was aware it was a rude thing to say. He's not been in this country for just 5 minutes, his English language has been second to none up till now. Just find it convenient that he was suddenly so unsure of what he said. He was definitely being rude one way or another, the scowl on his face during that whole thing and his tone spoke volumes. I know Lisa is far from perfect, but as someone who was a Rodrigo fan up until that moment, it shocked me.quote:Originally posted by Suzi-Q:

EXACTLY. Ive just said this in another thread. Ive not heard him refer to ANYONE as him or her in the whole of BB, when that person has been right in front of himquote:Originally posted by longcat:

I haven't seen it but was it not to do with her sexuality? Perhaps he was asking her if she was the dominant (male/him) one?

I have been living here for 10 years and don't understand the whole idea of her/she being perceived as rude, and I'm from America where we speak English!
Thats strange. Thought someone wouldve picked you up on it at least once by now. Perhaps youre just not rude like Rodrigo and have never said it to someone. Im sure my American friends are aware its rude. I will ask them when I see them next.quote:Originally posted by Suzi-Q:quote:Originally posted by Little Miss Spurs:Cant agree with you on this I think he was quite aware of what he was saying. to refer to a woman as she whilst she is in your presence is considered rude, as my mother used to say "who is SHE the cats mother, i have a name use it". So i suppose saying him/her amounts to the same thing.
If a person is unknown to you its ok to say him or her to describe them. To point at someone you know very well and say "her" instead of their name is considered rude.quote:Originally posted by Suzi-Q:quote:Originally posted by Little Miss Spurs:Cant agree with you on this I think he was quite aware of what he was saying. I was just going to write that.quote:Originally posted by mozart:

Off to work now peeps. Bye
I think he should be given the benefit of the doubt since his first language is not English.
Bye have a nice dayquote:Originally posted by Little Miss Spurs:

Agreed. But I do think he knew exactly what he was doing. In 12 weeks of BB he as never called Lisa "her" to her face.quote:Originally posted by chilligrape:

He knew fine what he did, then the nasty wee git shat himself when she let fly at him, and tried to cover it up!

I've seen it now. It was nothing to do with that at all.
Lisa was angry with him for referring to her in the third person as "her" while he was talking to David in her presence. She took offence and made a mountain out of it at which Rodrigo got angry.
Who cares!
We heard her say to Rodrigo on the previous nightsâ HL show that if they hadnât been in the Big Brother house she would have knocked him out! Anything he may have said (or meant) is mild in comparison to Lisa.

i thought he said *i had no reason really to nominate HIM (david) but HER (lisa) i did and then she said you calling me him/her, think she misunderstood what he said
Lisa was nit-picking as usual, she wanted to have a pop at Rodrigo because he had distanced himself from her and David. And this was his punishment, Lisa-style.
I seen it as the language barrier at play, and Lisa used it to her own advantage. It was clear to me that Rodrigo did not mean the comment to be disrespectful, but it was merely a misinterpretation regarding usage. English speakers know it is sometimes rude to refer to a female as 'her', but how was Rodrigo meant to understand the various nuances and vagaries of the English Language when his first language is Portuguese? Lisa just used it as a stick to beat him with.

That's how I saw it. I couldn't see what she was on about.
i thought it was funny
When you consider the way Lisa has spoken to some of the HMs, it`s a wonder someone hasn`t called her something much more offensive than "her".
My take on it is this.....
David and Lisa were sitting at the bus stop. Rodrego went over to them and said he didn't have a reason to nominate David, but did have a reason to nominate her. (meaning Lisa).
Lisa then took umbridge to being referred to as 'her' and questioned "HER"?
Rodrego then said, "yes, or you a him or a her"? My take on this is that he was saying who else could I mean, I said her and the other person here is a him. So he was (in my opinion) just saying that yes, I was referring to you as you are the only her here.
Phew. And I say that NOT as a Rodrego supporter. But i do think that Lisa exaggerated it a bit for effect.

I don't think he meant it nastily at all. Lisa just made a song and dance out of it. She is one to talk about people being rude when she is probably one of the most selfish and rude HM's.
Lisa just deliberately took offence where none was intended. She attacked Rod for calling her "her" instead of "Lisa", even though he was talking to someone else at the time, and just referring to "her".

Yes - thats what she meant i think.
I saw it that Rodrigo was angry and deliberately said HER with an edge to his voice.

Too right. At least he didn't walk up and poke her in the head, the wayshe did to Freddie.

OMG, can you imagine her reaction to that? She would have forgotten that she's in the BB house.

Exactly. I am not really getting all this defending of Lisa
I don`t think there was deliberate nasty intent.
I also think it is comparatively trivial.

Shes been rude provocative and really nasty ever since she thought she didnt have to be nominated again.
Rodrigo was upset and angry with her and with good reason. He may have slipped up with a bit of a she comment but I dont think it was intentional in the way the OP means. Even if it was she deserved it,horrible aggressive spiteful, selfish woman.

Initially, I thought it was meant as an insult to Lisa...but on reflection, I think it was down to his confusion with the nuances of the English language.
'And she's the cat's mother'
Roddy didn't mean to be rude. Lisa reacted OTT.

I'm pretty sure that Lisa has used more offensive language about someone than referring to them as "her". Referring to Sophie as Siavash's Pet was very impolite in my opinion.
If Rodrigo had referred to Lisa as "that thing" would have shown disrespect but he was only being grammatically correct to say "her".
