Couldn't believe the way Freddie said he had been on the dole and it was "Just pocket money" . Now I had a brief spell of being unemployed (not anymore thankfully) and that flippant remark made my blood boil!!

? Didn't he say he wasn't on the dole?
When did he say this? Link?
When did he say this? Link?
Yeah you'd better give a link for this.
I think he said it when he was talking to Dave in the kitchen.... He said he was unemployed after he finished Uni and collected benefits for a while but it was just small change to him...
I was quite shocked, I thought his folks were rich....

I heard that on last night's HL too... she said it was for a couple of weeks between leaving school and going to college
I heard this remark too and it made me really angry

On last night's H/L show, he said he was unemployed after leaving school and was briefly on the dole.

Yeh and he gave that stupid laugh when he said it was "Just pocket money". Knowing the daft British public, they'll make him the winner of 100,000 quid when he doesn't need a penny of it!
Ooooooh I've opened up a can of worms ....
even some of the rich and famous draw child benefit, because they are still all taxpayers, not saying its right or wrong but they still have that right the same as you and me.
no not really cos is was the way he said it so flippantlyquote:Originally posted by Lord Lucan:quote:Originally posted by love greek sunsets:and it was just a bit of pocket moneyquote:Originally posted by Lord Lucan:quote:Originally posted by 15:10:

I don't think the fact that he claimed it is the issue here, it his flippant remark about the amount of money he was paid that people are angry about, I think. Some people have to LIVE off the money that he was calling pocket money.
I'm sick of hearing people going on about Lisa being on the dole.
As far as I'm concerned, I've never heard Freddie talk about having had a job.
Oh but it's alright for him because he lives in a big mansion etc etc etc
Whether you like it or not, people are being treated differently in that house from the housemates themselves and from the viewers.
Can't people see that Freddie and Lisa are EXACTLY the same but just from different sides of the fence?
From a digitalspyer....

Exactly.
Yeah I was livid when i heard him say that ...what a twat!!
And the way he said it was so smug too....as if he was "down with the plebs" for doing so, like his fake hippy accent is also intended to portray
...what a wanker...get mummy and daddy to sub you you worthless muppet...Definitely got all the attributes of a future Tory MP

I heard him say it, but someone was asking for a link - can't find anything. MAybe they didn't think it was 'news worthy'
It was said in the beginning of the HLs so anyone re-watching the show today will hear it... I was baffled at the pocket money remark... Some people really depend on that "pocket money"

Spot on! It was for a few weeks only....all money is pocket money.. unless you have a hand bag! There are many people of his age that live at home and collect the dole and propably use it as pocket money ie use it for personal items..he would not claim rent or other benifits so what is the problem?I have no doubt that he will pay tax for the rest of his life so that other people will be able to claim .Swings and roundabouts really.
The thing with Freddie is that he is open and honest so he says it as it is.. would you have preferred it if he said that he had scrounged off his parents for a few weeks? I do believe they indeed work for a living and I presume they pay taxes! There you are sorted!

Living with such megga rich parents and claiming dole money shows what kind of a person he is. Someone with no morals basically.
Double standards here... Lisa said she was on the dole but initially before people knew that Lisa worked in factories all her life, some folks thought she was just a benefit thief because she has a brummie accent and looks common.... But when Freddie says it, it is somehow ok?

I absolutely agree!! his parents have been paying tax all their lives, and if he needs a few quid till he goes to work or uni,,, he's entitled to it! doesn't matter if he see's it as pocket money or rent money.. he is entitled to it!
Mollie it isn't the fact he had it re read the thread it is the way in which he said itquote:Originally posted by Mollie:quote:Originally posted by mozart:

i understood him to mean that the level of unemployment benefit is very low.

So did I
And it is very low , for a single person living at home it is pocket money my son recently had some months on the dole and he got ÂĢ40.00 a week
what does it matter if he is entitled to it? he doesn't NEED it
that's the problem with the benefits system as a whole, people look at it as a source of income rather than what it is - a way to support you until you can support yourself
you may be entitled to all sorts of benefits, but if you don't need them - and alfwit clearly doesnt - you should take them as it makes it harder for those who do need them to claim
and his comment about it being pocket money was shocking, espically in the current climate

but it would be pocket money for a student, if my daughter had to claim benefit after graduating from uni next year she would be supported by both myself and my hubby, so her money would be her pocket money for clothing and job hunting. Its very rare that someone graduates from uni and has a mortgage to pay and a family to support. if they did then iam sure that the benfits are more than they are for a single person who lives at home with their parents.

Well the amount paid is laughable, and Dave agreed. It was only for a few weeks while he was jobseeking.

I took it as him sympathising that the dole was not a lot of money, and doesn't go far.
It's funny how different people see things in different ways.
I'm not overly a Freddie fan, so don't think that comes in to it.

and to qualify for job seekers allowance you have to have paid a certain amount in national insurance contributions, otherwise it's called some thing else sin't it?quote:Originally posted by pheobe:quote:Originally posted by JacksonB:

Was that the same Freddie who sat with Bea and laughed and agreed while Bea ripped Lisa apart for claiming dole since she was made redundant. Lisa as probably paid more taxes than those pair put together.
and anyways, just because his family has money they aren't obliged to support him , once he finishes education.
Yes it was the same Freddie... Lisa has worked for over 20years so has paid her dues..... Its somehow ok if its Freddie though, he is the messiah ...
