Just had a phone call from the hospital.... how stupid am I !!!

I have a colonoscopy at the hospital tomorrow and day surgery booked for Monday

I got sent some Picolax to take before tomorrow also reams of paperwork but couldnt see any instructions of how to take medicine, so I was going to ring the ward this afternoon. The hospital just rung to make sure I had taken it

explained about the instructions (they were in the box)

I have 2 appointments with clients today in Cheltenham and Bath... nurse says "trust me.. you take the Picolax you aint going anywhere!"

She says did you have a light dinner last night (I had full roast)

So a great day in store for me.... Ive taken the Picolax

and am now just waiting

I had to take it in 1999 before my colonoscopy

DO NOT be more than 15 seconds from the toilet

Someone described it online as the 'pimp daddy' of laxatives, I think that says all you need to know about the stuff

Serious advice now...when your system is empty, run a warm bath and soak for a long time, it makes you very sore to say the least

If you have wet wipes, unperfumed ones, then use some to wipe

It clears out your system very fast though, probably within 2 to 3 hours, so justbe prepared to spend a lot of time on the loo. The actual colonoscopy was fine though, I had a sedative and fell asleep

When I woke up I asked the doctor when he was going to start and he said it was all over, didn't feel a thing

though you will feel light as a feather afterwards..so look on the bright side-- cheap colonic irrigation

The best bit for me was laying on a bed in the ward afterwards,with six other women and we all had to fart out the air they had pumped in,i couldnt stop laughing and they all said i was childish

haha I remember when my mum took that...she thought it hadn't worked until she went for a wee. She was still going 5 minutes before her op but the doctor said it was normal.

I had a colonoscopy. Didn't know anything about it because I was "under". But they pumped liquid into me so they could blow everything up and take a good look inside. This yellow liquid dripped out of me all day long, as I remember. For the first hour or so, after the colonoscopy, I just had to sit near a loo in the hospital cos it wouldn't stop!

I had that stuff years ago,for a lower bowel barium,thankfully a swallow one.I took it and was never more than two yards from the bathroom all day!I actually phoned up the hospital and asked "Is this supposed to happen?" Cue stiffled giggles from the nurse at the other end of the phone."Oh yes,it's to clear your whole bowels out" Bloody hell it did what it said on the label all right.

Awwwwwwwwwwwww .....my sympathies OP. It is very uncomfortable - I've had two. But .........IMO the prep is worse than the procedure - just stay near the toilet .......even when you think it's all over - it's not. You'll be surprised.

Good Luck .............. it's all over in a day and it's a procedure that could potentially be life saving.

Just to reassure you ........my first procedure was done at 4pm on a Saturday .................I was at a party later that evening. It's uncomfortable but not unbearable.

I hesitate to say this, but I had the terrible trots for three days running afterwards.

I didn't .....................the prep did it's stuff and I was emptied out completely.

Ohhhh poor you, my medication can sometimes give me days where it's not adviseable to be more than 50 yards from the loo, so I feel for you.

Awww Kazzy, I feel so sorry for you. I`ve had several colonoscopies and the worst thing about them is the taking the Picolax beforehand. One nurse described the stuff as "dynamite for your bowel"!

Let me know how you got on - I'm having colonoscopy on Wed, got ap't with nurse this afternoon to get 'instructions'/pack. They've told me I need to go on a 'special diet' for two days, then need to be off work the the day I take the laxative, day of procedure and the day after. I'm liking the suggestion of 'cheap colonic irrigation'

Hey by the time they do this and remove the ruddy great ovarian cysts I've got I'm hoping to go down a dress size

Mine just came in the post Picolax and all! I didnt even open the box to read the instructions... my own fault

My 2 mates just turned up and brought me baby wet wipes and E45 cream

I just saw your thread about your results Super I'm so pleased for you
