I never watched the show last night. Is it still recorded on a Thursday night? If so, surely anything deemed too offensive would have been edited out? I would assume the BBC at least monitor JR these days regarding the content of his broadcast output.

Were there any indications that the audience, guests, or house band were offended by this?

It was his radio show, not tv show and Ofcom said they had some complaints.

what so radio isn't edited but TV is? catch a grip. I have a gay son and found this just a quip by JR - He is so right if you had a choice as a parent (joke!!) as this world is still so narrow minded they make a gay person's life a misery as if it's their choice. The family suffer too its ridiculous!

Like the thing with Russel Brand, just a joke. I don't think for one minute that he really thinks that.

With people like Jonathan Ross and Russel Brand, you gotta take them with a pinch of salt. If you take stuff seriously and are offended easily, then don't watch them! Simple.

I personally am not offended by anything, so can watch anything whether I find it funny or not, but obviously people are different.

You're right - I don't watch Brand because I find him offensive! Laugh

I don't think phoning up an elderly man and telling him you've effed their grandaughter, can ever be described as 'just a joke'. Glance

I'm with you on that .....that was out of order. The comment the OP mentioned was pretty harmless fun IMO.................really can't imaging many gay men being offended TBH.

He should dump the BBC and go elsewhere! I'm sure he didnt mean 'put them up for adoption' literally Roll Eyes

i totally agree with you that he should dump the bbc and go elsewhere and see if anyone else will pay a jumped up unfunny little pratt ÂĢ18,000,000 for 'working' 2 days a week over 3 years...........what are the chances?

I don't mind dodgy humour... un-pc comedy... there are people that can get away with a bit of risky banter cos they are genuinely funny... for me, he ain't one of them!

I agree.
I'm all for un PC humour mock the week style(now if you want a non PC genuinely funny bloke listen to Frankie Boyle),but it's not so much what Wossy says, but the fact it just aint funny.Nor is Ricky Gervais.Russell Brand is funny in small doses, but every night on BBBM was just too much of him.
As for Wossys wadio show.A horrible mutual backslapping exercise.

I agree. Brand is a nasty, vile, unfunny, offensive little man.

So it would seem it's pretty apparrent that .........it's not what Jonathan Ross actually said that was outrageous - simply the fact that folks don't find him funny and overpaid.

TBH .....if people are complaining to OFCOM about his comments (on this subject) they really do need to get a life.

It was a bit of fun FGS ..........quite harmless - some found it funny - some didn't as with all humour. Hardly homphobic.
Soozy Woo
Soozy... I was just about to say...

my post wasn't really about the comment the OP was discussing... more my opinion on Ross in general.

And I'm certainly not OFCOMing. Nor am I wanting his head on plate cos of this comment.

I don't however, think he should hold the position in the Beeb he does.

Mazzy, has quoted my post, saying they too don't find Ross funny.

Neither of us mentioned homophobia.

Suppose that wasn't a joke, because it was actually true. So I get your point.

Still a massive over reaction from the chummers of this country though. The reaction to that from the do gooders of this nation, well you would have thought that Ross and Brand had committed murder or something.

I think people just need to get a life if they get offended by that. The only person who had a right to take offence to that was the person it happened to and his grand daughter.

That's fair enough. Not everyone finds him funny, I do, but I realise that not everyone finds him funny.

But getting suspended from his job because the public 'are offended' <- oh poor them! by his humour absolutely takes the piss.

I'm sitting on my hands and trying not to get drawn into the Brand thing (cos I do find him funny...)...

But I will say that what REALLY annoyed me about that whole sorry incident was the constant reporting that "the license payers do not want this kind of broadcast.." "the license payers do not like Brand"..

I am a license payer too. I DO like Brand. In fact his Radio 2 show was probably my fave BBC production! But seems some peoples license payments don't mean as much as others.

As for the ins and outs of the Andrew Sachs thing... Its been done to death... we know how those outraged feel, we know how those with differing opinions feel, this thread was supposed to be about Ross, not Brand.
Dirtyprettygirlthing
To be fair, I am a fan of Russel Brand, find him hilarious. But never watch or listen to anything he does on BBC. The stuff I see from him is stuff like Ponderland and BBBM (when he used to present it) all on C4/E4.
I think he's hilarious, he's intelligent and has the ability to find the funny side to simple day to day normal things. Like the vile side to his humour as well. GREAT STUFF! Big Grin

I'm getting so fed up with all this stuff...

Aren't there bigger fish to fry right now? OK he gets paid a lot but I'm wondering how it compared with And & Dec for example ...

If you don't like him turn over or turn off. There are plenty of things I find dire on TV but I accept my taste is not everyone's so I resign myself to generally puerile Saturday evening dross.

Anyway ... just to present a little balance I wonder if anyone read this story?

Jonathan Ross has given a Twitter user a free trip to Detroit to attend Eminem's new album launch.

The presenter had previously invited Eminem to his home after filming of Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, where the pair bonded over their love of comic books.

On his Twitter page, Ross wrote: "OK. Eminem invited me to go to Detroit next Tues! Flight/hotel all in! Exclusive launch of his album. Will be cool. But I can't go!

"I have checked and he is cool that I offer it to someone on Twitter to go, plus one, instead of me! It is [his] CD launch but something else rather special might be happening too. Small crowd, invited people only!"

He added: "So, once I set question, first correct answer to appear on my screen gets to go to Detroit, free! And hang with Marshall! Crazy!

"At least one of the pair has got to be old enough to travel alone I guess, and tickets are from UK. But apart from that anyone can try! Tickets are flying out next Monday, flying back Weds. So you'll be home Thursday. Cool?"

He then asked his followers, 'On which Marvel comic book cover did Eminem just appear?', which mattywlkr won with the correct answer Punisher.

Relax Cariad. People are entitled to their opinions. And just because they don't coincide with yours, and you don't like peoples' opinions, or are tiring of hearing them, and you think there are 'bigger fish to fry,' does not mean people cannot express themselves and give their honest opinions.

This is a public message forum after all, so people are GOING to post opinions and views, and they should be allowed to do so, without being critisized for it, by people who do not like their opinions, or who are bored with hearing the same kind of comments... If you think that something has been over-done and you are bored with it.. then stay out of the thread... it's that simple.

If you must take part in the thread; disagree with the post and the views by all means, but don't attack or ridicule the person who you disagree with, and make remarks like 'aren't there bigger fish to fry' implying that the person is being petty.

I am getting fed up of people who disagree with someone's points of view, having a go at them and telling them they need to 'turn off the tv,' if they don't like it, or 'get a life' and 'chill out' and all that ... What right has anyone got to say anything like that, when someone is giving an opinion?

If people can't take part in a message forum without attacking people for their views; maybe THEY are the ones that need to switch off! Their computer that is!
