Joan Sutherland, one of the finest opera singers of the 20th century has died aged 83.
Here is a clip (not the best quality) in one of her most famous roles - Lucia di Lammermoor.

I have found this non-UK edition of "This is Your Life" on Joan Sutherland. It is in 3 parts and was shown in 1979. The quality of these clips is poor and there are some disruptions as a result, particularly at the start of each clip.

She had a rather manly jaw, and her diction was not the best, but she was a wonderful singer.
She was able to do things with her voice that one might think should be impossible.

Lucia de lammermoor is one of my favourite pieces. I think that Dame Joan had a beautiful voice, I have loved listening to her for a lot of years. R.I. P. Dame Joan.
