He will probably say he killed her by accident and panicked.

i was so intrigued by that story when it was in the headlines.

I suppose pleading guilty at this early stage is a good thing for the family.

Hmm dunno if it would be for the family's benefit considering he didn't have the guts to fess up to it in the first place and left them wondering for days what had happened to their daughter.

I would take a guess that's it's what his brief's advised so the jugde will be more lenient than had he pleaded not guilty.

It  prevents them from sitting through a lengthy trial , with the possibility of a not guilty verdict being returned.

You are right , an early plea will be taken into consideration when it comes to his sentencing.

It doesn't matter that he's pleaded guilty to manslaughter he is still being prosecuted for murder.

But for what he put her family through for all that time let alone what happened to that poor girl, he's just another one I have no compassion for whatsoever.

I bet the landlord who was the first to be arrested is very relieved. At least the police and the family now know they have the right person.

So glad the Prosecution Service threw out his plea of manslaughter and he will go to trial for murder, just unfortunate for the family that the trial date is fixed for Oct 4th. Its a long time for them to wait.

I'm sure he's well aware that the evidence against him is indisputable ................surely he's pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the hope his sentence will be shorter than one for murder.

Yes thats whats so scary about an educated nutter, thankfully the Prosecution Service saw through it, and his plea was rejected..

Well we won't know the truth until the court case in October, unfortunately. I'll be interested to hear how he could plead manslaughter when he was able to think clearly enough to put her in a car and dump her body in a remote place and not even somehow make anonymous contact to put those poor parents out of their misery let alone hand himself in to the police. Yeah I know it's easy to be an armchair critic and look at the black and white of the situation when we don't know exactly what happened or how he felt about what he did, but I just can't get past the images of her mum's face when her daughter was still missing and then when she was found. It was horribly sad to see, and he could have ended their anguish a hell of a lot sooner. 

I agree ..............I know in the grand scale of things it makes little difference bt the fact that her body was found on Christmas day makes it all the more terrible.

I'm glad they know for definite who did it now.. hope he gets the right sentence for his crime..

but I was curious why, when another young woman went missing a good few weeks back [in the Bristol area was it?]  and search parties were sent out, there wasn't the same amount of press coverage as there was for this one when it happened. .That girl was found dead and a cabbie confessed to that plus they also found another body of a girl he'd killed previously... why does one missing girl arouse more response in the media and in discussion fora  than another..

There was quite a bit of media coverage when the girl in Swindon was reported missing. Maybe it appears that there was less coverage because the suspect was apprehended quite quickly, and the media interest naturally fades - until the trial.

tho I think she was missing for well over a week. .and there was no mention of her on here either, not  that I saw anyway... .suppose that's why I wondered what makes one person missing garner more 'interest' than another. . but as I said twas just me pondering out loud..

Just speculating here but maybe the interest was prompted because there was CCTV footage which may have helped in finding Jo Yates - perhaps the Police took the opportunity to get her image out there in the search for her killer.

there was CCTV of the other girl. .am ashamed to say I can't remember her name.. tho couldn't recall Jo's name either til the new thread started.. tis the hole in my head that makes names fall out of it..

anyway the other girl was seen leaving a nightclub I think. .but I suspect as Moonbeams said maybe twas the time of yr..

thanks Yogi ..I am terrible with remembering names... unless I hear them on a regular basis they fall out of my head..  and even then I am not guaranteed to remember them anymore even if I do hear them often..

I am glad he was found guilty of murder and not manslaughter. He was willing to let another man take the blame for something he had done.
