Hall has  been bailed and will appear before Preston Magistrates in January. The BBC has  confirmed that Hall will not be working for the corporation while police  continue their enquiries.
A police spokesperson had earlier said of the  arrest: "An 82-year-old man from Wilmslow in Cheshire has this morning been  arrested by Lancashire Police at his home address on suspicion of rape and  indecent assault.
"The man will be interviewed at a police station during  the course of the day. The allegations are historic. We are not prepared to  discuss further."

He  was given an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list for services to  broadcasting and charity last December

Stuart Hall? I'm trying to think who he is although the name rings a bell

OMG him from it's a knockout

Yes. I still listen to him on 5live every weekend for the football. He's a great punter with really funny banter.

He is... and I've no idea why but it makes it all the more shocking.

I know. Never in a months of Sundays did I think he might be implicated.

As they say in the child protection world: "Be open to believe the unbelievable." JS was pretty obvious, not a million miles away from the stereotypical guy in the dirty mac' hanging around the swings and WCs of the local park.

It's about time the world got their head around the way these people 'groom' their victims, their families, friends and the community/ general public, (if they are in the public eye.)I'd like to think that what's currently going on will help with that, sadly, I rather fear that this may well all backfire.

This current government, with, for one of several examples: their changes to eligibility for CRB and barred list checks re people working with children to "common sense levels" are on the side of the adults, not children. Philip Pullman, for example, was one of the biggest lobbyists for the above changes. He might have remembered http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Mayne,  but, oh no, he and his literary friends seemingly thought that he was innocent, even 'though he pleaded guilty! http://www.faber.co.uk/content/william-mayne-obituary

I do despair sometimes.....30+ years of working in child protection, (there, I've said it!) We thought that we were getting somewhere and currently, it sometimes feels like we're now going backwards to when I was a fresh faced and apparently 'naive' social worker in the early 80s GRRRRRR

Yes, I suppose I still am... still registered as such, although it's been a v long time since I was at the 'coal face.' I've worked for a number of different agencies, (not just Social Care, in fact remarkably little for them in the last 20 years,) I'm a bit 'higher up' these days, ye know, one of the kinda clueless, menopausal ol' woman to which you often refer

Oh, my hearts definitely in the right place VD, why else would I have done what I've done for so many years with the passion and commitment I have given to it? See that naive social worker in her 20s up there ^, she was instrumental in putting her first ever boss in prison: a charismatic figure and a 'national expert' in behaviour management of 'disturbed' children. Only problem was, he was shagging them too....25 years he got

Jesus. How long had he been sleeping working with these disturbed children? I'm guessing a while to be labelled a national expert.

Well.. there's a case of 'physician heal thyself' right there.  Wonder if he'll come out of it unscathed.

I'm hearing the clattering of the carriage that took Robbespierre to the guillotine

That's what I thought too Pengy.  How much has he been paid in the past to keep the press at bay?

Yup my initial thoughts reading he's been arrested too. Covering this stuff up is just as bad doing it imo as that allows it happen again

EDIT; Clifford, 69, from Surrey, was held at 7.40am on suspicion of sexual offences and taken to a central London police station.

Yes, many years Jen, can't remember exactly, think he'd have been around his late 50s when he was convicted

It's sad to think they can go about their sick business without letting the mask slip for so long quite scarey too.

I totally agree.....It is starting to sound like all people in "Show business" at that time are in question.....

I would just like to ask ....."What were the "Caring" people employed to ensure their charges were secure and happy, doing whilst all these atrocities were taking place?....
