Joking aside - that Daily Mail report is a prime example of why all the media frenzy makes me uneasy about the whole thing.     As Soozy has pointed out, it's probably helped a lot of victims have the strength to come forward, but I suspect  there may be some today who were on the verge of coming forward who are now thinking 'What's the point of putting myself through that'

I've not read everything on this thread but have seen some names mentioned. Some are believable, some I'm surprised at. Justice moves slowly at times but a lot of lives are hanging in the balance. Those that are proven to be guilty should be prosecuted so that those they abused can hopefully find some kind of closure. Those that have been named but aren't guilty deserve to have their name cleared.

I was a little bit  at Cyril Smith but then I thought about it and I was like - hmmmmmmmmm - maybe I heard rumours before - I don't know.

As for DLT I'm really  is it more inappropriate behaviour as opposed to paedophilia I wonder? Who knows?

DLT has had two women come forward and say he groped them. . he's coming under the 'others' heading of the Saville investigation..

I wish I had a good memory and could recall all the blokes that have coped a feel/grope in pubs and clubs and tube trains etc over the yrs. .most got a slap around the face for their cheek [IMO the only way to deal with that sort of thing or call the cops for more serious groping which I actually did back in the 80's] . . I'd be raking it in as I sued them all for the distress it caused me...

Funnily enough I recall the first time someone ever coped a feel. .it was when I was 11 and had grown boobs and was wearing a bra at school. I was in the playground and one of the lads in my year, no doubt egged on by his mates, ran up and had a quick grope of my boob.. I dunno who was more surprised, me or him. . me at the thought that something like that would interest boys [yeah I was little miss innocent back them] or him at the fact he'd actually done it

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...scandal-deepens.html - Interesting that he strongly denies the claims, whilst also claiming that 'It was a different world in the 70s – all institutions were the same back then.'

Olly, according to this stupid woman - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/new...nger-Eve-Graham.html - you must have been 'giving off vibes'!

All these guys saying institutions were different back then have got it wrong. .blokes were different back then and saw women as pieces of meat.. oh hang on a lot still do. .so nothing's changed then

 True!

My uniform was brown cords, cream shirt and brown jumper. Maybe that's why I didn't give off those 'vibes'!

And yes, things haven't changed that much, although I do think women in the workplace have more faith in complaints being listened to now. Women in other situations, not so much, especially if they've had the audacity to have an alcoholic beverage.

Sounds like they have made the list already, although they only mention Twitter! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/cul...fe-Sally-Bercow.html

A list of those who named the Peer on Twitter has been compiled. They can come forward and agree to pay a settlement or be sued.

Found this very interesting.

Cut and paste of a comment from the Daily Telegraph site.

In his interview with the BBC today, yes the BBC, McAlpine acknowledges that that the allegations were not new and had originated in Scallywag about 20 years ago. I have read the article and it is certainly defamatory and at the end they actually invited Lord McAlpine to come and sue them. He never did sue.
David Icke included the many of the same allegations in a book that was published in 1998 and is still on sale online today. Why? Because McAlpine never sued Icke or his publishers.
Over the past week I have read plenty of encouragement for McAlpine to sue the BBC. Instead he has come to a backroom settlement with the BBC, so that he does not have to go to court.
His lawyers are going after the big fish on Twitter. The likes of Sally Bercow will almost certainly settle out of court, whilst there is no real prospect of McAlpine actually taking hundreds of others to court.
None of this will actually clear McAlpine's name and fully restore his reputation unless a court rules that he has been libelled. Somehow, he seems reluctant to do that.

The costs of taking someone to court over libel are considerable which could be a reason for reluctance. There was a major libel case brought by Lord Aldington against Nigel Watts and Nikolai Tolstoy concerning accusations of war crimes. The case dragged on for years and costs were awarded to Lord Aldington of ÂĢ500,000 along with damages. Tolstoy eventually paid out ÂĢ57,000 2 days of Lord Aldington died. Lord Aldington was at one time a deputy chairman of the Conservative Party. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolai_Tolstoy - Section headed Controversy.

I feel a little sorry for DLT if I'm honest. His job and whole life are nearly ruined, ok what he is accused of is wrong but he shouldn't be lumped in with Savile/Operation Yew tree... does this mean every sexual harassment/assault reported now connected with the 70's is also going to be part of yew tree? Or is he being made a kind of scape goat to appease the public who are waiting to see heads roll?

I really hope the police have other people on their radar and are just managing to keep quiet at the moment.
