It was here. You can't beat what the East Germans called "The old certainties!" Thatcher by a long tatie field was the worst thing ever to happen to this area.

I think what this exciting debate shows is that I'm in a minority. I feel that  that Thatcherism, not making and selling things, relying on abstract market principles, investing money in things with no real worth, not paying tax, that sort of thing, has been a complete failure.

The rest of you have never had it so good.

You're not in a minority. It's just that Socialism has been so bastardised (for want of a better word) that it's hard to think of anything to say to promote it sometimes.

That bit in bold makes it seem like you feel completely separated from anyone else who doesn't share your opinion, and that you personally have an advantage of suffering more as a result of the market economy.

I've seen you quote the old certainties thing loads on here. Those need to include the Stasi and an old guard of privileged Communist Party overlords.

Maybe a minority on this forum, but indeed not Suzy. Another fine example of world class sarcasm on my part.

I haven't suffered at all since I've called it all correctly since the late seventies, I have been very lucky, and am grateful for that.

Many people though seem surprised at the collapse of the western economy and lash out at anyone rather than the originators.

(sorry I'm in a rush to get sorted before the footie-I'm sure we'll return to this!!)

No they don't!! It's the certainty part I'm using. I did a dissitation on the Stasi and the panoptic state, and have visited the exhibitions at the postal museum and  elsewhere. You don't need to tell me etc.

I'm not telling you! I have some old certainties of my own too, and I believe that the rest is important to the whole.

I'm with JB & Kaytee.

We're not short of a few bob and have paid the higher rate of tax for a long time.

Not got a problem with that.  Never dodged a tax bill in our lives and have paid our way.  But what I do resent is the insinuation or suspicion that everyone who's a top end earner must be dodgy or bunging their money away elsewhere.

I'm also sick of people thinking that every CEO sits on his arse all day doing diddly-squat.

I really must state that I have admitted to being a champagne socialist for years. It has been up there on my status since FB began. Some like to waste money on cars, clothes, kino, cookery porn, and coke. I like champagne. As I navigate through this phone I can now reveal that i am at present wearing my Karlo T shirt. Scargill, though well meaning, and Gormley were tossers. If I may say so.

Good, you're back! Just want to say sorry if it looked like I was throwing the dogma tag at you. I do get what you say, but sometimes get confused when you appear to laud the Fatherland (as you call it), which has the one of the most sophisticated market driven economies in the West.

And I agree with you about Hislop. The world could do with more of his type!

I'm too common for this forum.    I'm off to chuck a Tetley's bag straight in the mug.

If you place it rather than 'chuck' it then you'd be a refined kind of gal.

And don't forget to lift your pinkie!

Trust me, I'm the only one talking tea sense in here, Suzy

don't listen to her, suzy

Nothing wrong with Tetley (although I quite enjoyed the free sample of Clipper that came with my shopping last week)
