However, I'm not a big fan of car wankers (to continue with the above nomenclature) People who obsess and fetish cars are a bit daft in my opinion. But we can avoid the prog!

I'm with you on this Garage Joe.  Given my lefty views, it's almost expected of me that I should despise Clarkson, but I find him witty, knowledgeable, informed and of course, laddish and childish but I don't mind that.

I don't even think Clarkson is particularly right wing nor sexist either.  I think he enjoys playing up to that persona though.

I have no idea what Clarkson's politics are but I had always assumed he was a lefty/labour person. . no idea why tho, just had him down as a shouty union type. . my personal generalisation I presume..

I don't even watch Top Gear but have seen the bloke on other shows and don't get the 'love' for him. . obnoxious overgrown mean man-kid who is allowed to get away with anything.. he may be intelligent but the negative sides of his persona counteract anything intelligent he may say as it makes me not want to listen..

Oh no, he's part of the Chipping Norton Set, which is a bunch of Tory tossers in and around Chipping Norton, including our useless, soon to be sacked PM, his insipid wife, gutter journalism's Rebecca Brooks, her porn loving husband and Alex James, the one from Blur who makes cheese.

As an old workmate of mine posted on FB earlier:  Imagine if - of all the atrocities in the world - the one thing that prompted you to sign a petition was your support for Jeremy Clarkson

thanks for clearing that up. .altho I was still wondering why personal politics have to do with whether you like someone or not...  I'm a bit right of centre and can't stand the bloke because of his personality not his politics tho

I've never watched the show, not interesting to me, but I'm aware of his controversial personality which doesn't appeal to me at all. His main traits seem to be arrogance and ignorance, the latter which has called him to apologise afterwards, hard to believe that he's sincere, just words to appease. I'm amazed 700 people so far have signed a petition for him to stay, surely there are others who could replace him and avoid the controversy

the figures I've seen are somewhere between 350,00 and 500,000 YR!

I don't get it either - I don't mind him, and I think he's quite funny... but the day I sign a petition about a celeb sacking (or report a tv show to Ofcom) is the day I know I need to get myself a life...

Wow, those figures are staggering! that will feed into his ego even more if possible. As he was already on a final warning I wonder if the Beeb will kowtow to petitions or make a stand.

Disagree.  It needs proper management, why not ask the people on the 'shop floor' The people who deal with cases on a day to day basis. It's the same everywhere, no one ever asks the people who do the job

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson initiated the BBC investigation which prompted his suspension, after he informed BBC bosses of the alleged 'fracas'.

BBC News understands that the star phoned BBC head of television, Danny Cohen, to report the incident.

Producer Oisin Tymon, with whom the altercation took place, is not believed to have filed his own complaint.

Interviews are expected to be held with the star and other parties next week. Top Gear remains off air this weekend.

Like the management

Some very uncaring callous NHS staff out there I agree Velvet. Lots of good people too, but many have left  They can't take the whole farce any more.

I think saying nobody cares is a bit strong..   I've family who are the staff (and trust me, I've seen the state she gets home sometimes, she cares ok.. )  I have family who use the service and have had about half a dozen times the normal person's NHS care/operations etc.. and can't speak highly enough of most of the staff.   My bezzie mate's one of those nasty pen pushing managers.   Yes, she cares too.. and  it's a thankless job when so much of it is nothing more or less than politics and having to report pointless stats whilst managing egos and power struggles of those in 'power'

Can't agree with that,I know politicians would dearly love not to have find the funds for it,but as a health care system it is one of the best funded and managed in the world.

If you are suggesting that it's not worth saving, then I'd have to take issue with that too.The thought of returning to the dark ages where only those with money could get health care, or go the American route of ambulance chasing,is awful

I think yet another shake  up is the last thing it needs.

One of the reasons  staff leave is because of all the political interference and politicians trying to micromanage it from Westminster.

Who knows who the good managers are? they spend all their time reading endless directives from ministers and form filling and doing tick box exercises.

That's a big jump Jacksonb...

I appreciate that some people may have had a bad experience with the NHS, but there has been no suggestion on how to improve things, except for tarring all doctors and nurses with the 'uncaring brush'.I think that that is unreasonable and lazy.I'm pretty sure that the majority of people would be prepared to pay more in taxes if extra funding for the NHS was required and the taxes ring fenced, so may be it would be more positive if solutions could be made as to how to improve things.

Ok, maybe a bit strong but it needs a serious shake up and I don't see how it can be done with everyone pulling against each other. And like Kaffs I was only talking from my experiences and those of other family.

I'll throw in the Liverpool Pathway where hospitals were incentivized to effectively bump people (the elderly) off by starving them to death without notifying family. That is just another example of an out of hand care system.

My Health Board in Wales has been compared to Mid Staffs by none other than Julie Bailey. It has more nurses currently charged with falsification of records and wilful neglect than any other HB as far as I know. Its hard to take when you've been the victim of poor care and callous nurses and managers yourself. Not suggesting they're all like that of course not - its a rotten few. However, interestingly in the NHS - its far more common for the whistleblower staff who speak up about poor care than those who perpetrate it, to get the sack.

He does tend to voice his personal politics and his attitudes towards women.  His personal politics aren't personal when they're broadcast on TV or in a newspaper column. It winds some up.

Jeremy Clarkson Dropped From BBC's Top

Gear

The broadcaster's director-general says the decision not to renew his contract was taken with "great regret".

Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson's contract will not be renewed after he was involved in a fight with a producer, the BBC has announced.

Director-general Tony Hall said the decision had been taken with "great regret".

He said: "It is not a decision I have taken lightly."

Clarkson was suspended from the motor show after his involvement in what the BBC called a "fracas" with producer Oisin Tymon.

Mr Hall said he had met and spoken to both men and was publishing the findings of the BBC's internal investigation, though he added that he took "no pleasure" in doing so.

He said: "The BBC is a broad church. Our strength in many ways lies in that diversity. We need distinctive and different voices but they cannot come at any price. Common to all at the BBC have to be standards of decency and respect.

"I cannot condone what has happened on this occasion. A member of staff - who is a completely innocent party - took himself to Accident and Emergency after a physical altercation accompanied by sustained and prolonged verbal abuse of an extreme nature.

"For me a line has been crossed. There cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another dictated by either rank, or public relations and commercial considerations."

The BBC investigation found that Mr Tymon was "subject to an unprovoked physical and verbal attack by Jeremy Clarkson".

It said the attack lasted around 30 seconds and only stopped when a witness intervened.

Mr Tymon has not spoken publicly about the confrontation.
