use them way beyond their sell by date? I was clearing out my larder cupboard and have two unopened jars to be used by 2006 . It's not that I'm tight or anything - more intrigued - I wonder if they would improve with age. Would you use them? Don't want to kill anyone.

Hi soozy.
I think 2006 is probably pushing it a bit. There is a good chance the fruit would have formented or worse.

I don't think so, not in this case Soozy. I think you might end up with a poorly tummy - or worse.
Try a bit
The worst can be fermented or more alcoholic.
I could think of worse ways to die.

I'm so tempted ...........I thought mincemeat was a sort of preserve that improved with age.
(That's my excuse - nothing to do with the fact that things get stored in my cupboard never to see the light of day again).
There could be fruit flies in the jar
I'll open them up a bit later and report back.
It'll be like my very own bush tucker trial

Lol Soozy
I would only open a jar of mincemeat if my life depended on it. Hate the stuff, fresh or gone off.

I had no idea that you were a vegetarian.

I alway think that use by and sell by dates are there for a reason. I throw everything away if it's not used by its deadline.

They are....to make you spend more money replacing perfectly good food.
Make some pies and try them out on some friends acquaintances.
Croc, I agree, those things are just there to keep the lawyers happy. I'd use things way past their sell by or even use by date.
