School had told him he had got in to his insurance choice, but until I saw it with my own eyes I wouldn't believe it, which is why it took so long to come on here and tell you. Oh and I've also been out with him, his friend and his friend's mum to celebrate at lunchtime!!

So No 2 son is off to Hull!! He really wanted to go to his 1st choice (;ancaster), but he thought, and I've convinced him that he has made the right decision to go to Hull rather than wait a year to see if he might get into Lanacaster then (which would by no means be a given).

Well done everyone, and Ditty - I'm sure Ickle has made the right decision too!!

Way to go! Well done!  xx

Hope the stress levels are going down

The woman who was in a relationship with the Berlin Wall was odd...but he bloke with his cars was too much!!!

Mine is a platonic love!

Now chinook helicopters on the other hand.....

I shall look out for you if they make another episode!!! The wall woman made miniature replicas of sections of the wall and slept with them

the bloke with the cars claims to have a physical relationship with them ...thankfully (and I do mean THANKFULLY)...they only showed him licking, kissing and caressing them

*tries to banish images of Duck licking a chinook from mind*

And Hull's a fab place! (I lived there from the age of 3 to 12)

AND.... I dunno about you, but I get to drive over the Humber Bridge to ferry him to and fro! I love that bridge

Moomin, that site was was an absolute disgrace today!!

It was hours before anyone could confirm if they had uni places! A whole morning wasted.....not knowing if they were going to have to go through clearing or not.

Of course the uni's themselves were then overwhelmed with calls....so those genuine clearing cases were having to fight to talk to someone, because those with uni places were also ringing up trying to get confirmation.

Ducky

I'm all sorted for September, I didn't do A levels... decided to go and do a btec as I thought the idea of no exams sounds like a walk in the park, however, I really was wrong It was no walk in the park at all, coursework every day for two years, was also doing work over Christmas as there was so much to do.

All worth it in the end, got a DDD so happy days, on to Uni in mid september for Garden Design, I am in two minds though... I may possibly go onto a law degree in a years time if I change my mind, always had an interest in it but been abit nervous about going into it. Don't want to feel pushed to one side because I not done subjects that are related in the past... I do have the qualifications to go onto the course, would be abit of a strange change to go from Garden Design to Law but I suppose I will just have to wait and see.

I love that bridge too - it's awesome ............bloody expensive though in comparison to other crossings/bridges. Well done to Duds - I'm not too far away from Hull - I agree it's a great place - very understimated IMO - I love Hull Truck Theatre!

It was shocking wasn't it - as if parents and pupils weren't already in a state, they had no idea what stage they were at as regards clearing. Glad you survived.

Well done on your results ...................the difference between Garden Design and Law is pretty wide . Is it too late to have taster days? It's a big decision - the more info you have the better in order that you make an informed choice.

I too have to go over the Humber Bridge - it's very expensive though. My son hasn't received a pack or anything yet, probably cos it was only his insurance choice. Not sure what accommodation he will end up in either, as first choice people get their pick first. However, I'm just relieved he got in and doesn't have to go through clearing.

It's great they are going to the same place - we will have to compare notes!!!!

Exactly! Insurance choices are a god send

I'm so excited that I have someone to compare notes with!

I've just been looking at his pack and the semester starts on 26th....but there is a Freshers welcome party on the 24th.....so that's 5 weeks on Saturday! I'm not sure I'm ready!

You'll have to let me know what accomodation he ends up in. I'll keep my fingers crossed that he gets somewhere good.....and somewhere cheap!  My son knows where he's going to be, and has already scouted the place out on google street view

Ducky

I'm very relieved - Growly Jnr got 3As and a B.  She got below her predicted grades in 3 subjects, but I was worried that she would do so much worse having spent much of the last academic year stoned and completely disaffected, until she decided to start working two months before the exams.  She managed to get away without doing any homework in most of her subjects, and taught herself almost the entire maths syllabus because she hardly went to any lessons.  Hopefully she's learnt her lesson, and won't leave everything until the last minute at university.

well done to Growly Jnr..     you sound like you've been as frustrated/worried/stressed/plus a whole lot more as well, too Growly.

YOu should have come & joined Ducky & me in the ship...     we've had tearing our hair out weeks/months this year too.

5 weeks - it seems way too soon.

I'm excited for him, but it's just hit me that it'll just be me and OH after that. It will be so strange after 21 years of children in the house.

I just hope his accommodation isn't too grim and that there will some other freshers in the vicinity.

I'm sure it will be fine Moomin I think the uni's are pretty good are making sure the freshers are together.

Has he had a look on their website at the different types of accomodation they offer? My son is in a uni owned shared house right next to the campus (literally the first house). Hull Uni own streets of houses purely for this purpose.  His first choice however was halls.....three miles away from the campus. So there's quite a variation of different types and distances. All look pretty good to me (from what I've seen) though, so I'm sure what ever he gets he'll be happy.

Ducky

my youngest two went away to uni in the same year ................my oldest had already left - it was at the time of 9/11 .....................we really were incredibly low for a couple of months - it was HORRIBLE! Then - in the January my grandson was born - life moves on and evolves. I'm a melancholy type of person - I really don't like change TBH - sometimes though - change can be good
