Well I think we are better placed to keep their memories and experiences alive than previous generations were with all the media we have nowadays. It can feel like information overload at times though but all in all it's better to have too much info than too little
It's all very well having an oral tradition like our Iron Age ancestors but if your culture is wiped out (like the Romans did) then it is very difficult to know much about that period.
