I don't think so.  You can't undo the past but you can oppose the same mistakes being made in the present and future.  Islam has also had its historical fair share of invading and imposing standards on the local populace.

I'm not saying the DM's article isn't the typical sensationalist fear-mongering bolleaux, that is the right wing press's stock in trade. I just don't agree with the "what goes around, comes around" argument.  The present generation can't do anything about the legacy of their ancient forebears and their forebear's behaviour should not be an excuse to excuse similar behaviour by others.

agreed carnellian, but it's not the point i was making, my point is/was that all the hand wringing and knicker twisting isn't eally valid, when we recall  our past.

I'm back off m'hollybops, just taken off our wellies, galoshes, sou'westers etc.

One of my clique buddies sent me a message to say that I may have offended someone for which I apologise.

After the business in Norway, and having been trapped next to a euro right winger on a train from Hannover to Hamburg I really had had enough. There did seem to be a concerted and organised backlash across Europe and loads of fascist bilge pouring out of the internet.

They do the same stuff as our lot..........

a) Our nation is a soft touch. (insert a European nation)

b) They get free houses, mobile 'phones, cars, haircuts, newspapers usw.

c) they are trying to form their own ghettos.

d) Muslim prisoners refuse to eat pork.

So, the OAP caught me at a bad time. I sincerely apologise and I do hope that the people of the city concerned can continue going about their business.

Didn't get involved before, but, I will say, now that you've had a 'right to reply' I absolutely know that you wouldn't knowingly or intentionally have a 'pop' at anyone.
