Anyone see this story in the mail?

 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...s.html#ixzz1TPt9t3Ke

Islamic extremists have launched a poster campaign across the UK proclaiming areas where Sharia law enforcement zones have been set up.  Communities have been bombarded with the posters, which read: ‘You are entering a Sharia-controlled zone – Islamic rules enforced.’

The bright yellow messages daubed on bus stops and street lamps have already been seen across certain boroughs in London and order that in the ‘zone’ there should be ‘no gambling’, ‘no music or concerts’, ‘no porn or prostitution’, ‘no drugs or smoking’ and ‘no alcohol’.

Can you imagine what would happen if you popped over to Saudi Arabia and stuck up a few posters proclaiming that the lamp posts were Christian territory and anyone passing by could expect a solid dose of alcohol and concerts to accompany the gambling and drug taking?

Perhaps our bearded poster stickers should wander off to places where their radical views are more popular.

Replies sorted oldest to newest

you mean the small brightly coloured bits of sticky paper collected by pre-pubescent lads before they find out what big boys get up to, or the bruises on your hands where people have stamped on your fingers as you try to get home after an evening out?

What sort of Christians have you been hanging out with?!!

Too right Blizzie.  In a certain light he looks like his face has been stuck so far down a coypu's throat that he is sticking out under its tail.  That is how I shall remember him anyway

That's not Choudary, by the way.

This is Choudary, in his student days -

Oh! the decadence of it all - Woodpecker and Mayfair?  Who on earth goes out for an evenings drinking with his Uni chums and not only lines up as much 3.5% apple juice as a person could reasonably stomach but takes along a Mayfair? (so they can read the articles obviously.)

Apart from the widespread cruelties practised by these mediaeval fundamentalists, the blatant hypocrisy of their behaviour takes some beating (like the luckless women in their societies)

PS.  I see these wonderful god fearing zealots have just hanged an 8 year old boy because his father would not give them a police vehicle for them to carry out an attack with.

Unless you're hiding some powerful insights within your remarks Velvet Donkey, or there are some great witticisms hidden therein, it is my perception that you are not adding much value in this thread. There is every possibility that the subject matter described in the original article may lead to lifetime changing experiences for our population.  However, your in depth contributions about stamps and oranges have not moved the discussion forward in any direction I can detect.

I know that there are some unkind souls around who have told me that certain FMs are proof that empty vessels make the most noise Mr Donkey, but I am sure that you have got hidden depths and I look forward to more gems and pearls of wisdom, just as soon as you have had a little lie down to recover your inner strength.

That assumes that Christianity actively encourages such things as drinking and prostitution, when we know that it pretty much doesn't.  I think you're confusing the liberal secular west which is Christianity greatly diluted with much atheist/liberal/secular influence.  In fact, many modern day (never mind medieval) fundy Christians and such sects intensely disapprove of drinking, prostitution, porn and other behaviour deemed decadent and ungodly.

Not really, you don't have to go that far into Christian fundamentalism to find such opinions.  Those in this country, who petitioned the showing of "Jerry Springer: The Opera" would easily fit into such thinking.

when i lived in balsall heath/mosely, birmingham my window overlooked a corner where the girls used to gather

we used to watch outta the window

the most customers the girls had were muslim blokes

my mate (a girl) who lived in the flat by mine used to take 'em hot drinks in the winter-cos they looked freezing!

anyway-oddly enough it was the muslim elders that drove them away

There you are then SazBomb, I have taken out the offensive word for you ........... and while I would not purchase or read the paper in question normally it was laying in the hairdressers.  Nobody is denying that the posters were stuck up, or who did it, or why though.  So regardless of the affinities of the paper (in the hairdressers) it seems a valid story. I am sure you will agree that just because someone has a particular axe to grind doesn't mean to say that we cannot hear what they are saying.

Geordie Lass,

If I chose to, I could get printed a load of "You are entering a devil worshippers' zone" stickers and proclaim on those stickers that the zone permitted general debauchery, black masses and blood sacrifices of goats and virgin maidens.

If I then went around sticking those stickers to bus stops and lamp posts, would that then make such zones true 'Devil worshipping' zones?

I bet it does, and I can see why it would. We can do without such fundie crap which I can see can be quite intimidatory, and without doubt, only inflames tensions.  The DM is being more than a tad sensationalist in its headline, though.

Are you asking if I for a minute think that stickers make it so?  Of course they don't.  The purpose of the leaflets is to inflame public opinion.

If they were put up by the EDL they would be hate crimes of course.  But they do indicate that there are certainly those who proclaim that the ultimate goal of the Muslim religion is to establish a Caliphate encompassing all the lands that they previously considered theirs and if possible all of the world.  They rule such places as they do rule by violence, barbaric treatment of women and children, and they have no respect for the sanctity of life.

Do I think that the views of the entire Muslim world are accurately represented by the suicide bombers, the female mutilators and the savage oppressors of all that could be good and decent in the world? Nope.

But look around and see what is happening in all of the Muslim world and say ' where is the decency, the compassion and the love for all humankind demonstrated in those lands?  Then try and take a bible in your luggage in Saudi Arabia.

You would probably be better off with Devil Worshippers

Well exactly, just cos a few nutters stick up a few stickers doesn't mean that anyone is taking any notice of them, or even noticing them

Would they?  Or would they be 'hate crimes' in the narrow received opinion of the average DM reader?

I say this because the EDL hold marches and rallies with speeches where various speakers voice their opinions in a way that would make Muslims feel uneasy and threatened.  Such views should be aired and it is right that they are aired in a liberal, tolerant society - as do the BNP and other far right predominantly race driven organisations.

When you mention the ultimate goal of Islam, you're forgetting that

The ultimate goal of Christians is world wide Christianity (or more appropriately, world wide dominance of a particular sect of Christianity)

The ultimate goal of socialists is world wide socialism

The ultimate goal of classical liberals is world wide laissez faire capitalism

The ultimate goal of atheists is world wide atheism

etc... etc... etc...

To me, all religion is just thought controlling mumbo jumbo used to control people and advance power bases.  Read the blood soaked pages of the Old Testament and the justifications for brutality, murder and subjugation. It's a barbaric book that makes Islam look almost liberal.    Would the world be better if we were all atheists as Richard Dawkins would like, probably not!  The post-revolution French and Russians found ways and justifications to murder innocent people under the virtuous banner of atheism.
