Mine's a showhouse - every time someone turns up unexpectedly, the state of it makes a right show of me

At the moment mine looks like a tip, toys, books, clothes, dirty dishes lying around, plus carpet stains due to grapes being scrunched in. The cause of this is a 15 month old child!!! She is watching In the NIght Garden and i am here having a coffee

Hi slim
I'm ashamed of my house sometimes.
I know how I WANT it to look, but it never does.
It doesn't help that I am not the tidiest person ever.

It's a tip, Marguerita, and it can't be my fault, because I'm always on here!
I still have unpacked boxes (we're here a year and a half) in my bedroom. Books,cd's and dvd's on the landing floor(waiting for the fairies to bring book shelves)and a roll of black bin bags (sorting out wardrobes) and a kitchen chair (supposed to be painting the bathroom ceiling). It'll all happen some day.

Mine too although I would like it to be neater but I feel like Sisyphus trying to achieve that with a bubba going on 18 months!
I'd like to say it was minimalist chic with everything in it's place and fully plumped cushions....but it's not because we live in it
Living room - showhouse, remainder of house - tip. Been decorating for I don't know how long and it never seems to get done...one step forward 2 steps back! My sister has a show home to the point that I am terrified to drop a crumb. She's Hyacinth Bucket and I'm that neighbour of hers

If I'm having tea she'll slide some kitchen roll onto the table under my face just to make sure I don't spill anything She has a gorgeous home though and maybe if mine was like that I would do the same.
Far from a showhouse, more like a tip today. (Husband three cats and a greyhound don't help!!)
Usually fairly neat and tidy.

What was that reality programme where they used to come in and get rid of all your clutter - a lot to the tip, but some to an auction?
I'd quite like to do it though I'd be embarrassed for people to see the things I hoard.
I'm not quite material for "How Clean is Your House?" yet though.

Nobody interesting lives in a clean and tidy house
and yes, mine's a shithole too

Everywhere is OK except my office which looks like a mad scientist works there. Sons bedroom looks like a doss house and is a white suit & gasmask job.
Whorehouse
*sighs*... Shithouse!
Used to be more like showhouse, when I worked all day, and it was just me and the kids (cos no one was home all day!)
Then I got married, got a dog, stopped working...... I have more time on my hands... and yet less gets done! How does that work???

a few years ago we had 2 sofa's, a 4 seater & 3 seater, they were stuffed with feathers, beautiful to look at until you sat on the them, then they looked a mess. I allocated the 3 seater as a non sit sofa.
I`m afraid mine is a showhouse and I know that`s probably a bad thing to admit to. When my husband was alive he used to go mad as he`d put the paper down and it was in the bin before he looked round again. Since he died 2 years ago I`ve redecorated and bought new furniture throughout twice that`s a bad thing to admit to isn`t it but it keeps me going, I don`t drink, smoke or go out and I`m crippled with arthritis but I shop the life out of the internet.
ours is a TIP! lol......seriously, it IS untidy, hubby is a hoarder so it's messy but not dirty.
I know what you mean I bought a 4 seater and 2 seater a year ago and they were described as supposed to be the "lived in look" - no good for me, I`m forever plumping them. Am buying new sofas next yearquote:Originally posted by Essex Angel:quote:Originally posted by Aimee:

this sounds like a plan i think teenagers should sit on the floor anyway
another thing that is bugging me at the moment is hair bobbles and head bands, they are all over the bloody house, she takes them out wherever she is standing or sitting and im following her around picking them all up oh and leaving shoes on the stairs, there is currently 5 pairs waiting to be taken upstairs *and breathe*
I describe mine as clean but untidy. My sister in law has a showhouse, with 4 kids . Never a toy in sight, not even Christmas day. Mine is more, never a surface in sight. This could be due to SIL's 4 kids spending most of their time at my house. 3 teenagers and 2 twelve year olds (including my son). All open plan downstairs, with no glory hole to shove the crap in.

if it ain't been worn or used in 6 months i throw it out can't stand stuff being left around
minimal, modern, clean and tidy but comfortable. i dont run around plumping up cushions if a visitor had crushed them though.
then my daughter comes home from uni and the place is an untidy mess

no it is lived in
Mine used to be till I got depresssion.
I don't do as much as I once did, but it'ss till fairly clean and tidy.

When I had 3 under 5, it was like a showhouse.
But for the past ten years...on my own, working full-time and with 3 teenagers and me...I lost the battle long ago!
I hate clutter and mess, and don't create any myself...unless I consider my book collection which runs into thousands However, it mostly occupies the garage, attic, and bookcases.
I own 1 ornament and 2 paintings and regularly have trips to the skip.
I adore my children and don't want them to move out but, jings, despite my efforts at training them, they're so messy, and it's unbearable!
