I agree with you re bands but not individual singers.
So does that mean opera singers, people who sing in musicals can go and fornicate somewhere i an offward direction.

Prom darling - you are talking twaddle.
It's like saying people who play musical instruments should only play their own music.
You yourself have said that people like Bob Dylan should not sing their own stuff but stick to writing it.

Make your mind up

No no no I'm talking about people hoping to be famous and successful when they have absolutely no talent. I think you'll find the best cover versions come from people who have already written brilliant songs and give their own unique versions of great songs as opposed to boy/girl bands or the long assembly line of talentless turdbags on X Factor.

The likes of XFactor are doing no favours to the up and coming new bands/musicians. Back in the day, bands/ musicians had to make it through their own talents, but nowadays it seems to be be about someone who is popular, whether or not they can sing, and can make loads of dosh for the folk that promote them. ( aka Simon Cowell)... No future in music nowadays with this type of promotion.

Elvis never wrote his own songs

I can see where you're coming from here but really, how many Elvis's have we had? He was an incredible performer but also he was very unique in the way he sang and the way he moved he is the nemesis of the all the wannabe idiots and all the boy/girl bands who wait patiently for some idiot to pluck another classic out of the archives for them to ruin.

There was only one Elvis there are thousands of copycat acts with no talent whatsoever willing and able to destroy everything put in front of them.
