Does anybody think that Britain and the rest should intervene as they did in Libya or are they too scared of Iran, Russia and China?

Cologne, it is awful. I heard on the radio that the Assad regime has been going for 40 years... no doubt kept going through fear.
I don't know if its right to intervene, even though the Syrian people are crying out for help. However when the regime tumbles, as it will, isn't there an extremist Sunni lot waiting to take over? I don't know as much about it as I should, but I fear there would be all sorts of factions. I'd worry that if the West got involved it could lead to another open ended conflict like Iraq or Afghanistan.
Shame on The Arab League though, they seem pretty useless.
And shame on Russia and China - who obviously have their own reasons for siding against pro-Democracy movements.
We got a resolution for Libya from the UN (although Russia abstained). In the case of Syria Russia and China used their vetos so there is no resolution making it very different situation from Libya.
I've been thinking for months now that what we've been witnessing in Syria has been significantly worse than the abuse Gaddafi was dishing out and yet nothing has been done about it. The reason it seems is because Russia and China have strong financial and business ties with the current regieme. And the reason UK, USA and the rest haven't tried getting resolutions from the UN until relatively recently is because they were all too aware of the futility of such an aspiration knowing Russia would sweep away any deal no matter how watered down it might be.
However I believe having tried and failed to get a resolution isn't a complete disaster (yet!!) As the Syrian regeme predictably ups their violence, the growing world outrage would switch towards Russia who have basically given them the green light. Russia will be seen to have blood on their hands. The pressure will quickly pile up.
I just wonder how many will have to die before Russia and China decide to put conscience before profits.
It's only going to get worse,Israel is twitching to attack Iran.
Not as bad as Ruanda.
Yet.
I don't think the situation is nearly as bad as it was in Camboida under the Pol Pot regime. I don't believe that we should get involved in Syria without a clear mandate from the UN - I would hate to see the UK taking part in yet another illegal conflict.

While they(Israelis) continue to carry out atrocities in Palestine, which also goes unchallenged ,what a world.
No they just execute people for breathing, Palestinians off course.

And aid workers bringing in food
Who nicked it off the Canaanites.
Well, if we go by the Biblical story, Abraham (from which all Jews descended) actually came from modern day Iraq and was promised lots of descendents and land by God. After lots of moving and begetting, the Jews ended up in slavery in Egypt and were led out of slavery by Moses, moving to Canaan, to conquer the 'promised land' and slaughter the inhabitants.
Indeed, and lots of getting slaughtered.
It is quite ironic that the new tories cosied up to Assad, he did after all train in London, yet Blair was sent away with a flea in his ear. We appear to have lost influence. Meanwhile Iran has fallen out with Hamas over Syria. So no-one knows which Palestinian peace loving group has favoured status. Israel apparently isn't responsible for the most recent Iranian scientist assasination, whilst not denying all the others.
At times like this it's almost impossible to work out which are the men in white hats.
Apparently the Iranians are starting to argue amongst themselves too.

Last i heard, Mugabe is stepping down out of the limelight to allow another of his cronies to take power. He should have been taken out years ago by Mosad,SASAnd what about Libya now- fighting in Tripoli by warring factions from different tribes unhappy with the Transitional Government. Why do we ever get involved in overseas affairs?
