I love Top Gear! The bigoted stuff is no different to what you see on Loose Women on a daily basis. The fellas may be a pain in the backside with their comments but it isn't the whole ethos of show. I like their passion about good cars

Karma,do you watch Dave like me? I love the road trips they did, especially the one in Vietnam where Clarkson got his cumuppence on that scooter as he painted the tarmac blood red.

As a knee jerk left winger, I don't mind Clarkson or his opinions.  I think he puts over his opinions in quite a witty way even if sometimes the politicking is a bit wearisome for a program about cars.  I find them quite entertaining but I rarely agree with Clarkson's opinions.  I find him amusing and quite like Top Gear.  The whole Mexican thing is just been blown up because it's Clarkson and he has form for being controversial for the sake of it.

I couldn't count the number of times the Norfolk inbreeding joke and the Welsh sheep shagging joke has been done with not a ripple of criticism.

Jonesy, yeah they painted stuff on their cars.... but c'mon,as they passed into Alabamah, the road sign was already riddled with bullets...like Jezza said " Alabamah! They shot up their own sign! "

The ridiculous U.S. had it coming

Its funny to watch at the time and had to laugh, but it could easily have got much worse In fact it may have got worse- we only see the edited version. Makbe the beatings were edited out and the hospital shots.

To be fair, kattymioww, Stephen Fry usually betters every guest.  I've been surprised just how knowledgeable Clarkson is and his contributions to QI have made me realise his Top Gear persona is a bit dumbed down.

Stephen Fry was refused entry to Japan last week cos of some comment he made on QI. I read this somewhere.

Basically, it was top headlines for a week in Japan. They had a comment on QI about a guy who was in both the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Stephen Fry made a joke about him being the unluckiest person in the world and it was taken as being extremely insensitive in Japan. Thus the hoohah. (Fry has since apologised.)

Well except I don't really watch Top Gear much. But they do make me laugh when I do. A few years back they decided that Toyota Pickups must be the hardest vehicles in the world as you always see groups of gun wielding revolutionaries riding around in one. So they got one and tried to destroy it in various bizarre but highly amusing ways.
They didin't succeed

The bottom line is ....... I got a quote of ÂĢ400 +. For a new exhaust system. Whilst I shall be seeking better quotes tomorrow, that amount would buy me 1.5 season tickets or four standing season tickets for my pals at Bavaria Munich. Cars are turtelly un cost effective piles of shieght and the fact that some twisted arsehole makes a prog on the tellybox in order to worship them seems rather surreal. Unless they are being ironic.

Have you considered that you may have bought the wrong car..?
I know they depreciate in value the minute they leave the forecourt but I loves my motors.

As for Clarkson, he's ok in small doses (good guest for QI & HIGNFY) - the other two limpits can go for hike though.

See I kinda agree with you Joe being an old hippified Green Anarchist - although more of the armchair variety now.
But I worked in the luxury high end car business for a good few years and I can't help loving a really beautiful. well designed, fast car.
I do it from a distance though and wear a hair shirt for at least 2 days afterwards

Well... Clarkson's persona is definitely a construct ("for money", as Stewart Lee would point out), but I do wonder about his QI appearances.
Stephen Fry has actually stated that, although QI is unscripted, there is one guest who insists on being given the answers beforehand. Fry has said that one day he'd like to deliberately give him the wrong answers, just to teach him a lesson.
Now: I've got little reason for thinking this other than I don't particularly like the guy, but I can't help suspecting that the guest Fry was referring-to is Clarkson...

I actually detest Jeremy Clarkson, and yes some of the things he says ARE offensive, but some things are quite funny.  Thing is, he only says what other people say to their mates in the pub and so on.  But I guess you have to be careful what you say on telly.  It's bloody stupid though, because youre afraid to say ANYthing!    I found this list on MSN of 'offensive' things that 'famous' people have said.  Problem is, people just contact ofcom and so on, about anything.
