It said on Radio 2 this morning that Victoria Beckham likes these Birkin(?) handbags for which there is maybe a 3 year or more waiting list and they cost thousands. She is supposed to have about 500 of them. Is this purely her own business or do you think its faintly obscene to spend like this, if you have the dosh?

She should spend it on pot noodles for the starving baybeees in Africa, but they don't have kettles.
I would say its her money to spend how she wants.
She can't bring it with her. Let her spend her own money as she see's fit.
if you work for it it's upt o you how you spend it. She's not everyone's cup of tea but she is a good business woman and if we are willing to pay her wages by buying magazines with her in them than fair play to her
I think VB should fork out a few more quid on having a HUGE screen erected around herself, personally I wouldn't care if I never saw her again.

I personally think it is obscene.... but I guess conversely it's her own business

Being morally wrong and being faintly obscene are two very different things.
If she was a Christian, like Cliff Richard, and she had luxury houses and vineyards and stuff, like Cliff Richard, then she'd be immoral as a Christian since she'd be obliged to give most of it away, like Cliff Richard.
It's pretty obscene though.

What could anyone do with 500 handbags!!! Why can she not use her pockets?
I'd rather they spent it, than squirreled it away.
At least it has some chance of filtering down to those less fortunate!

I suppose that she can do what she likes with her own money
500 does seem quite much!
She can spend her money how she likes Its not like she is buying hundreds of bags and her family is going without... the boys seem to be very well cared for
She probably doesn't have to buy most of them, the designers will give them to her so they can get free advertising.....
I reckon she keeps snacks in them.

I have no problem with people spending their money.
The current crisis was caused by the less financially intelligent amongst us spending other people's money.

She is a multi millionaire she can afford it what is a lot of money to us is a drop in the ocean to her ,it is not like she is spending money on herself and her family are doing without we may do the same if we won the lottery
Nothing beats a 82 Lafite spritzer. Nothing.

I think she in them.
That aside, my moral is 'If you can afford it, if it makes you happy, if you're not hurting anyone.... buy what the hell you like'

Or the less financially intelligent peeps lending it to the other less financially intelligent amongst us.
She doesn't seem happy despite the wealth. But then it could all be her "act" to look pouty and moody, who knows.

Indeed! Or the misinformed amongst us who lent the money to the less financially intelligent peeps who lent it to the less financially intelligent peeps, believing that they knew what they were doing, and yet all the time they were less financially intelligent than ourselves.

Must admit Baz I thought the same.

Good point!
..If she is buying them, good...especially now, the folks with money should be spending it, it's the folks with money that aren't spending it that are the worst.....
500 is abit excessive, BUT, if she wears the same shoes twice it's plastered all over the mags....if i were her i'd spend, spend, spend!

I'm torn on this one.
On the one hand I wouldn't appreciate anyone
telling me how to spend my money, but in times
when people are losing their jobs and homes it can be seen as tasteless.
Sorry to sit on the fence but I do really see
two sides to this.

But, as the Devil said, we need the loaded to start unloading.
Jobs are on the line because people have stopped spending!

Tbh Aquarius I think we all feel a bit like that
I can see that people thing it's a little excessive as we're in a recession BUT, my Boss keeps moaning about the Credit Crunch, saying she's not spending when she is as I see ALL her Bank Statements.....it bugs me because I was promised a Bonus at the end of last year and never got it!!!!
At least VB doesn't try and make out she's skint, unlike my Boss who is a Millionairess in her own right...that's what makes me mad....just admit you HAVE the money to spend instead of using it as an excuse not to give promised Bonus!

If I had it, believe me Blizzie I would spend it! Maybe not on a 500 squid handbag tho.
The only people who seem to be spending right now are our MP's...Credit Crunch, what Credit Crunch?

I think it's her own business...not that I'm a V Beckham fan by any stretch, but if you've got it spend it...why not.
What I find morally wrong is people who don't have the money but still spend extravagantly on credit cards and the like. My brother and sister in law are up the crapper since his business went bust yet she continues to spend money...the latest thing she spent was E100 on a dog kennel..for the dog they've only had a week and three days ago they were giving back because it was pooing where

That was one thing that got me about the latest parliamentary scandal, one guy who claimed for his gardener is a multi-millionaire, and he wants ME to pay for his gardener??

Oi you, Daniel, shove up a bit, I was here first
I think it's vulgar but not immoral.
I just thought I would Google the facts about the bag, and here they are
"Despite having a price tag upwards of ÂĢ4,000 and a waiting list anything from eight months to four years long (unless you're a VVVIP), the HermÃĻs Birkin is nonetheless the handbag that most women would happily trade every other handbag for." Oh boy! More money than sense?
