When there is absolutely no need for their use. This is illustrated by the likes of that spikey haired chef fella, Gary Rhodes. He often ‘literally fills a pastry case with the cheesecake mixture’ and ‘spoons the actual mixture in and then levels the actual mixture off’ and ‘actually takes the literal knife and cuts a slice’.

Because all these things are not tangible and his actions, his cookery figurative. Mehâ€Ķ Mad
