i think the reason hira gt such a good reception was the relief that freddie had finished.

its the only explanation i can think of i'm being kind to him as everyone keeps saying he hasn't got a nasty bone in his body, his new friend Bea hasn't done him any favours.

Freddie is just such a sweet soul. Okay, we might look on and think "Oh gaaad.. please no!" because we know full well that Bea could only ever find that sort of expression of feeling for her, a burden.
I've seen him looking sad and pensive and going to bed early because he knows in his heart that she isn't as interested as he is and I think in that respect he has adopted the traditional "waiting game" role of the passive female and even though he sounds as though he thinks himself capable of dominating her into some sort of surprising and passionate union - he can't.
So, our hearts bleed a bit for him as we can feel his impending loss and doom and crushed spirit.
